Posting pictures on this forum has always been confusing, because you have to upload your pictures to another website first. If you don't have a personal website, this means you have to register and upload to a site that provides a photo archive. Jim Rose is presently using the simplest system I've seen, and it doesn't require your own site or you having to register on another. If you've been reluctant to post pictures on this forum, you might want to give his system a try. Here's how it works..
1)First, you have to load your picture on your computer, from either a digital camera or scanner. You probably already know how to do this, but it's important to know what folder the picture is filed in. Usually the pictures will be loaded to the My Documents or My Pictures folder. This is also a good time to resize the picture for best viewing. Some versions of Windows (XP) make this very easy. Just right-click the picture and a popup menu may have the option "Resize Pictures". Select "Small" and a 640 x 480 duplicate, labeled "small", will appear next to the original. Using this small size will prevent your picture from scrolling off the right side of some screens.
2)Next, go to http://tinypic.com/ . Select "Browse" and locate the picture on your computer that you want to post. If you've resized it, pick the small one. Then, push the "Host It" button. Your picture will be uploaded to the TinyPic website archive and at the bottom of the page you'll see the URL that identifies where it is. This URL is automatically added to your clipboard for later pasting, but write it down or print it in case you make a mistake, or click "Email me this link". Without this unique URL you won't be able to find your picture.
3)Finally, go to the RVA Photo Forum, login, and compose your posting. When you get to the spot where you want your picture to appear click the 3rd icon from the right (Insert Image), just below the message box. You'll be asked for the "URL to the graphic" and here's where you paste the TinyPic URL that should be on your clipboard. If it isn't, you'll have to enter it manually. Before posting your message and picture it's a good idea to Preview it first, so you can make changes if necessary.
That's it. The TinyPic website is an easy place to store pictures you want to post on this BB. Any picture not accessed for 30 days, however, is automatically purged, so you wouldn't want to use this site to permanently store your pictures. Good luck. - Dave
