Is this a wild title or what? We didn't believe it either when we passed it on the road. Didn't even know what it was. We crossed the border into Canada from Glacier Park, Mt, and were on our way to Calgary. It's maybe 1 1/2 hours up the road.
They tell the story of how every so often the buffalo would collect on the plains in this area, and when the indians recognized this, they began to build small wooden fences on each side of the buffalo. They were in the beginning as far as 2 thousand feet apart, slowly closing them in to the point of the mountain cliff. When the time was right the indians dressed in goat skins would rise up and start yelling and chasing the buffalo. The fences they had built herded the buffalo directly to the cliff. By the time they realized what was happening it was too late. Down below the slaughter began and would supply them for a long time.
Where it got it's name from was not the buffalo smashing their heads when falling, but from the chief going down to the foot of the mountain cliff to watch the buffalo fall. What he didn't expect, was the pile got so large that the dead buffalo toppled over on him and smashed his head in killing him.

The next picture is inside the museum and shows the buffalo's standing at the top of the mountain as it was in the old days. You also can go outside and walk to the actual mountain where these events took palce.

This was the first time we had taken the motorhome into Canada. When I pulled up to the custom's station I asked what should we do? She said do you have any alcohol aboard? I said yes. She said how much? I said a lot of half bottles of variety. She said do you have any tobacco on board? I said yes. She said how much? I said at least 50 cigars. Do you have any firearms? I said no. She said you need to pull over by that big building. When the Mounties got there I had all the whiskey bottles and cigars on the kitchen counter so they could see what I had. They asked if we had any thing valuable in the motorhome. We told them money ( cash ) and Susie's jewelry but they could not get to it because it was in a safe. They never asked to see inside the safe.

They made us wait outside while they searched the motorhome about 10 minutes. While they were doing the inside I opened up all the bins so they could check underneath. When they came out they said everything looked good and there was no need to look under the bins, I could close them back up.

They loved the Harley on the back and the Black Widow VW.

We crossed at Glacier Park Montana into Alberta.
