The 49 had to go to the shop this week. It broke a reverse band in the transmission. We are building it new so hopefully it won't have to come out for a few years.
While on the lift I had the opportunity to do a real close inspection of the under side. It looks brand new under the car. We did learn that where the transmission was mounted, it had been modified. The older transmissions for the 49 were all straight shift and very small. Our 49 has a C4 Ford automatic which is much larger. They had to cut the original tunnel out and build a new larger tunnel. It looks factory new.
I am sure this will not be the last time we will visit the shop, but we will be back on the road until it needs attention again.
In the mean time, my friends from Ft.Myers, Jim & Laura brought us a gift for the 49. It came out of his old body shop, in Va Beach, that he closed when he retired. Someone gave to him years ago and it was hanging in his office. This was a factory picture introducing the automatic transmission for the 1 st year which was 1950. We jazzed up the frame to match our ford and Susie added some flames. we will take it with the car when we show it.
