This was our first view of the flatbed train cars getting ready for us to load for the 5 day Copper Canyon Trip.
The rail yard was in a town called La Junta,Mx
We had 24 rigs on our trip. It took all day to load us.

The first guy to load has to drive across 23 cars to get to his destination. It looks really small up on the rail car and it is. Later you will see the skinny rails you have to drive across to get from car to car. The rail help actually manually holds the cross ties for you to drive across.
Notice the side rails on the train cars. They are there to keep you from falling off while getting out of your rig while in motion. They allowed us to sit out on the front or back of the rail car while traveling during the day.

Here we are loading. As I said before ,it took all day.
The only trouble that day was one of the rigs gunned it a little too much and the crossties kicked up when the front wheel came down and the rear of the cross tie came up and torn off their stairs.

This is a good picture of the guys holding the crossties in place.
Considering we weighed 26,000 pounds, they didn't look very big, but they assured us they would hold the weight.

Finally loaded.
Since we didn't take the Harley, we used the back platform for a porch.
They didn't recommend you take a toad with you. If you did, it was 350.00 extra.
They talked us out of taking the Harley because they didn't want the responsibility. If we had it to do over again we would have taken the bike. there were loads of places we could have rode while there when we had plenty of sitting around time.
Another interesting point. If we had elected to take the bike and the VW, the Mexican authorities would not have allowed it. You cannot take more vehicles into Mexico than drivers for them. Susie and I would have been limited to one each.

This was our first picture after getting under way. I was outside on the front of the rail car. Tried to get a gorge as we went by.
