They also have a salt farm in this area. We did the tour and it was amazing how creative the Mexicans can be. They dug ditches to the ocean and filled large square areas with ocean water. Then they would let it evaporate in the sun and continue the process until the salt residue would be 12 inches think. Then they would bring big front end loaders in and scoop the salt, loading it into large trucks for export. After the harvest they would open up the ditches and start the process over again. The large piles of harvested salt were huge and cheap to obtain.
