We stayed at the Fern Grotto Inn in Wailua. Spent about 5 days there. Most of the time it was raining but we didn't let that keep us indoors. Took our time driving to the end of the road on the north shore. Right across the road from our place was Coca Palms Resort. Guess Elvis filmed one of his movies there. It has since closed and is pretty run down
The cabin itself was one sleeping area, 2 bathrooms, and a living/dining area. VERY comfortable, ceiling fans, louvered windows. Rain was very loud on the tin roof. You'd be laying there at night listening, couldn't believe that it could rain that hard for so long and then it would rain harder!!! Pretty impressive.
This is the North Shore, end of the road. A group of hippies had a commune there in the 60's. Taylors camp. Said it was far enough away and bad enough road that the local kids didn't come bug them to much.
Nothing like a fresh picked lime in your beer to top off the whole trip!
Aloha! Towards the forbidden island, from our deck! Navy cabin wasn't as nice as the first one but the view made up for it!
Paradise has far more to do with the person than the place
