Hmmm...I've heard of funeral meat...but never funeral potatoes. The first year I was the FHA was teaching having a luncheon for the faculty during education week. The girls were were trying to decide on a menu and one of them suggested funeral meat sandwiches. I was like "WHAT"??? The kids then explained to me that in this area they always served ham salad sandwiches after funerals hence the kids called it funeral meat. Several years later a friend gave me a cookbook called "Lutheran Church Basement Women: lutefisk, lefse, lunch and jell-o" It has some great old time recipes and it is funnier than hell, written with real tongue in cheek humor! One chapter is called "Funeral Meat and other dead spreads" I picked up a copies on Amazon for my mom and a friend who collects cookbooks last year. There has even been a musical written around the cookbook and it played in the Twin Cities area for several years and was completely sold out every performance.
