I am making cake balls to give for Christmas. Most people think they are candy. I guess they are half candy and half cake. You bake a cake from a mix following the directions on the box in a 9 X 13 pan. After the cake has cooled break it up into a big bowl and take a 14.5 oz container of the ready made frosting and mix it with the cake. You need to take your hands and mush it all together so that it is a gooey mess with no dry cake. I make about 1" balls out of this and put them into the ice box or freezer for a while. Don't freeze them, you just want them cool so the candy will stick. Melt a 1 1/4 lb package of Almond Bark and dip the cake balls into it and put on wax paper to dry.
The directions I have say you can use any flavor of cake and frosting but I have only made German Chocolate cake and Coconut Pecan frosting and chocolate almond bark. You could also use the vanilla almond bark. I usually need about another 1/4 package of the almond bark to cover all the balls. Everyone I give these to loves them.

They are messy and take a while but are good. I have stated making an assortment of cookies, candy and mini-muffins to give as christmas gifts. Everyone has so much stuff, me included, that they seem to enjoy this gift. At least I get requests every year.

I saved the recipe...and also sent to a couple of my baking friends. When I get home and have the refrigerator/freezer room, will make them.
Happy Holidays,Martha!! :)

How do you do that with Almond Bark? Don't the nuts hinder making the balls? Live, Love, Laugh - Aloha Donna & Willie 05 32' Seabreeze Class A 07 Jeep Liberty Ltd

The GDs and I made these today...our almond bark did not work well for us...we tryed a lot of things to make it work...water only made it thicker, shortning worked a little but the best thing we did was to use the microwave to melt it instead of the double boiler! I added some peppermint chips to white almond bark so now we have pink Cake balls! Alice

I used a small scoop ( size of Meatballs) that was too big, I think the size of cantalope ball is better, they are sweet! I used Carrot cake and cream cheese frosting with vanilla bark.
