It's really interesting to read about everyone's plans. We're all so different, lifestyles are the same but different, and so are our Thanksgiving Day plans. I have my convection/baking oven along with me and thought I was in deep doo doo today when I fired it up to bake biscuits. It's sitting outside on a table and Stan plugged it in, turned it on, and the ground fault plug kept popping off the line. He then plugged it directly into the power source at the post and it worked. I figured my plans to bake deserts was blown and I'd have to do something that didn't require baking. The oven in the 5er just doesn't bake, it burns. It worked finally and hopefully it will work Wednesday when I bake my cake and pie. The joys of fulltiming. Lindy

Just a thought for those wanting to do something for Christmas for someone. Mollysmom mentioned the nursing home. In the past, my friends and I have done several "walk-throughs" at nursing home for Valentine's Day, Easter, and Christmas. If you are looking something to do for the elderly and you don't have a lot of $$$ to spend, I recomend picking up a few boxes for cards (32 for #2 last year) take the cards out of the envelopes, and sign them with your first names and a Christmas wish. Go in to see the Soc. Director at the nursing home you would like to visit and tell them you would like to do a "walk-through" before Christmas and hand out Christmas cards to the residents. I recommend walk-throughs because then you see the residents who aren't able to come out to social functions but their minds are sharp. They will welcome you with open arms. The residents will love it. Of course, some won't know you were there, but there is nothing like seeing the smile break out on a resident's face who hasn't had a visitor in who knows when or has even recieved a card for any occassion in years. You do need to find out how many residents are there before you go so you can be prepared. They also love it if you do something Christmasy like wearing a Santa hat. Unless you take the card out of the envelopes and stand them on the patients night stand, they will lay there unopened in the envelopes usually. For the families of the residents who don't know you were there, it means a lot to their families to know someone cared enough to come by and see there loved on. Happy Holidays. I realized after I posted, this is the cooking thread! I was just responding to what Mollysmom said!! Hope that is ok. I am baking a double pumpkin cake to take to church tonight for the Meals on Wheels dinners our church deliver every Thanksgiving. We will put desserts in containers tonight (try to give every one two desserts for lunch and dinner) and some will prepare the dressing tonight ready to bake tomorrow. Church members will have the turkeys baked and deboned, ready to heat and serve. They will fix the rest of the dinner in the morning and drivers will be on the road by 10:30. They will be back in time for their own dinners at home. Those from the church who have no where to go for Thanksgiving dinner will stay and eat together at the church. For me, I'm going to some friend's house for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm m.aking a choc. dessert for there. Happy Thanksgiving!

MY CONVECTION/BAKE OVEN IS REALLY BROKEN!!!!!!! Tried to bake potatoes this evening and no heat. I have everything ready to bake a cheesecake and a pie and I won't be able to. Can't use the RV oven because it burns. So.........went to the grocery store and bought an apple pie and a pecan chesse cake. I'm so disappointed. My oven is only about 8 months old, don't know what's wrong with it. :quest: Lindy

I bought one of the 3 lb Butterball Turkey Roasts to cook. I have recipes and ingredients for 3 different kinds of dressing and haven't decided what I am going to make. So that should be interesting. Also got 4 pumpkin pie recipes off the internet and haven't decided which one to make. I should have started today but was too busy running the roads.
It was in the 80's here today but a front is coming through tonight and the temp is suppose to drop about 30 degrees. Darn, I can't wear shorts for Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving Martha

Martha, sounds like you are suffering from a severe case of indecision... :)
Know how you feel about no shorts..we are headed to our son's home today.. (hours drive) where he'll cook outside...BBQing the turkey...We are taking dressing, giblet gravy and a Waldorf Salad. Supposed to be a high of 55*... Hope it's not windy at his "Pineywoods home"..
He has no house...he and wife live in an old, small non-running motorhome while they are building a home in their spare time. they have it fixed up nicely with a cover over it AND patio area... half of the patio area is a wooden deck and the other half flowers and a larger waterfall plastic pond. Animals are abundant, including a pet pig, Mr.Snort..
He loves his redneck home!!! :)
HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL!!!

YUM>>>> I bought a small 10 pound turkey. Just bought it for the size, hadn't heard of the brand before - ZACKY farms. It used a sea salt solution. Man it tastes absolutely wonderful... even the white meat is juicy and flavorful..... Haven't added salt to any part of it. YUM YUM YUM! "Don't believe everything you think"

I bought a 10 lb Turkey just so I could have left over turkey sandwiches. Told DH not to eat up all the turkey so I can use the meat for enchiladas. I love left over Turkey.
