This is maqybe a southern thing. I remember watching someone make a yellow cake sheet cake and then pour a can of condensed milk over it. They poked holes in so the cake would absorb the milk. Well, maybe I missed part of the recipe, because my condensed milk is just sitting there like runny frosting. I've poked holes, but nothing is happening. 1984 Class A Allegro(Miss Piggy) Jean the Scot Bogie the Pit (rescued) Shona the Calico Cat

I haven't heard of the condensed milk thing, but somewhere have seen a recipe for polking holes and pouring in liquid jello of something. "Live well, laugh often, love much."

When you ate it, didn't you find the condensed milk HAD run down into the "poke holes" and filled them up?
Cakes like that are called Poke Hole Cakes
Here is a recipe:
LEMON JELLO POKE HOLE CAKE
4 eggs 1/2 c. oil 3/4 c. water 3 oz. pkg. lemon Jello
Beat eggs, oil, water and jello until light and fluffy. Add 1 package lemon cake mix. Bake in 9 x 13 pan for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees. Take out, with the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all throughout the cake, an inch apart, cover with icing.
ICING:
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar Juice of 2 lemons, or about 1/2 c.
Bring to a boil. Spoon onto cake over holes.

Sparkle, This is the one we use.
Gelatin Poke Cake
1 pkg. (2-layer size) white cake mix
1 cup boiling water
1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Brand Gelatin, any flavor
1/2 cup cold water
1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed
PREPARE and bake cake in 13x9-inch baking pan as directed on package. Remove from oven. Cool cake in pan 15 minutes. Pierce cake with large fork at 1/2-inch intervals.
MEANWHILE, stir boiling water into dry gelatin mix in small bowl at least 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Stir in cold water; carefully pour over cake. Refrigerate 3 hours.
FROST with whipped topping. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or until ready to serve. Cut into 16 slices. Store leftover cake in the refrigerator.
