I don't know anything that irritates me more than fighting to get a boiled egg peeled! I was just reading on a cooking forum to steam the eggs 20 minutes.... and then was a snap to peel.

I don't need any boiled eggs at the moment.....but I'm going right to the kitchen and steam some and we'll see about that!!

I'll be back in about 25 and you'll be able to tell from attitude and body language if I'm in a cooking snit or not...

Wish me luck!!

DON'T DO THIS!!!

I am laughing my fool head off! I put two eggs in a larger steaming pot to give it room and plenty of water, 'cause if it was going to steam for 20 minutes, I didn't want the water to disappate somehow and burn things up. I put the inner cover on the plastic pot--- and put the outer cover on and locked it down and turned the Microwave on. I was still standing nearby when only two minutes had passed and an egg exploded, blew all the lids off the pot---which hit the microwave door...blowing it open and sprewed steamer lids and egg everywhere! Such a mess... I just stood there and laughed and laughed.

Never mind the mess... I found it halarious...and all I could think of as I surveyed the mess was my snit, body language and attitude NOW!!

The microwave was dead....and checked breakers, plugs, for a re-set button. I called the 800# and lo and behold found someone working on Christmas Day. He said the door blowing open when cooking burned up the circuit board. I have company coming...and my meal is cooked and cold in the refrigerator. Since the day is sort of an open house type day... and was depending on the microwave to warm plates of food on an "as needed basis"... I use my mic ALL the time, many times a day...cook with it.. not just heat and thaw!

Milt could see the humor in it too... and he said "Honey, you are REALLY good!! You choose a day to blow up the microwave when even Wal-mart is closed!!"

I am STILL laughing!! Oh....and the one egg remaining was completely done and it looked like HE$$ when I peeled it! It did NOT peel pretty.!! Nothing about the whole lesson was pretty! Hahahahaha!

Better day to you than mine!

Merry Christmas!

that is too bad about the microwave! really too bad as I know that you use it all the time...it's funny if I was reading it would have assumed that it was steamed on the stove for 20 mins you assumed that it was steamed in the microwave for twenty mins...but still even 2 mins shouldn't have blown the door open...hopefully come Monday you can replace the microwave...

it does seem that are a gazillion methods of cooking eggs so that they will peel easier...from it being old eggs to.......the one you just experienced! one of the ladies at the QIA swears by cooking them 20 mins then cold water I have a gadget that I put in the water with the eggs tells me when they are done and then out and cold water on it will it peel easy depends upon the egg ........

Merry Christmas

thanks for the chuckle Joella, eggs and microwaves Lately my meat has been exploding.. not sure what is up with that. Was cooking a chicken leg the other day and it exploded... I had little tiny bits of chicken flesh all over. The ham slices were doing it last night, not as bad as the chicken but still had to wipe it out when done. Hope the day was great even with non nuked food!

Think I saw this on TV but it works. Older eggs do much better. I take a push pin and put a tiny hole in the large end of the end. Boil as usual and when they come to a boil take them off the heat and cover. After about 10 minutes you can peel them.

I've done that one Vicki...and sometimes it works...sometimes not--- Just like any time I boil eggs in any method, or using any "trick".

We do have a new microwave. Was a bit of a problem finding one as needed a white one to go with the rest of the appliances-- and wanted at least 2 cu ft in size. Most stores had all black...or far smaller microwaves. Got one at Lowe's and only had to do a little cabinet wood modification to fit it in.. We only did without two days... Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Learning to use it now. It does all our 16 year old one did....and then some, so I'm happy.

Have a good end of 2010.... and a MARVELOUS Twenty-eleven!!
