Think of this as hot chocolate for grown-ups—a rich and warming variation on kids' cocoa. Add a splash of liqueur right before serving, if desired.

Yield: 4 servings

  • 4 ounces good-quality white chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup coffee
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon sticks or freshly grated nutmeg for garnish

Melt the chocolate in a heavy saucepan (or a double boiler) over low heat, stirring constantly. Add the coffee, milk, and half-and-half and heat until hot (do not boil). Add the vanilla right before serving. Serve garnished with cinnamon sticks or nutmeg.

I've never made chocolate with white chocolate before but think I will try this.

Me thinks I'll pass on the liqueur, cause I make my vanilla from Vodka and a vanilla bean.

So the splash of liqueur may be a bit much LOL
