This is a "from scratch cake" so it is not the easiest, but it sure is good. My Mom used to make it for us and it was always a treat. There is something special about making things that create memories.

ORANGE KISS-ME CAKE

2 cups sifted flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

½ cup shortening

1 cup milk

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 large orange (reserve juice for topping) grind rind and pulp with raisins.

1 cup raisins

Sift together flour, soda and salt. Cream shortening and sugar. Blend in eggs one at a time. Add ground orange and raisins. Add milk and dry ingredients alternately to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Blend thoroughly after each addition.

Pour into well greased and lightly floured 13 X 9 inch pan

Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes.

Sprinkle with Sprinkle topping

SPRINKLE TOPPING:

¼ cup sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

¼ cup chopped walnuts

Pour reserved orange juice over topping.

OMG!!!!! This cake sounds wonderful. I was looking for something a little different for Thanksgiving. Thank you Karen this sounds perfect! I am more of a "scratch" baker myself.. course it helps that I'm not working..... but never the less! Thanks!

Couse I don't have a grinder... but my sister probably has one ;-)

Would a food processer or a blender work to grind up everything? Or would it make it too mushy? I really want to try this. I love orange flavors.

Well my sis did have a grinder. A no.3 Universal food chopper... Made by L.F. and C, New Britain, Connecticut, USA. It was patented Oct 12 1897. Then on the handle it says it was patented in Belgium May 15, 1900~~Brevete, SG,DG 1897 (not sure were that is) and in Canada 10-12 1897. Is that cool or what!! I know I've seen mom made mincemeat with this thing a time or two in my youth!

Judy (sis) did say I might need to use my little cuisinart if the rines were to coarse! Just a few quick pulses though..

Finally tried this cake, it is fantastic. Had it for club and all the ladies asked for the recipe. Thanks for posting it.
