Born and raised in Louisiana (Lafayette), but I've lived in Texas the past 30 years. My late husband and I got a 34'Canyon Star (Newmar) When he thought he was going to "beat" colon cancer. when he died 2 years ago, I decided to try going "solo" for a year. Love it!! I truly love driving my rig. Don't like the "mechanics",packing,unpacking,etc. But totally worth it once I'm on the road. My children thought I needed a travelling companion to ride "shotgun", so I now have a Belgian Malanois. (looks like a German Shepherd). I teach music at an elementary school outside Fort Worth. My biggest trip was joining friends in Colorado last year, and will do the same again this summer.

As for Louisiana..still have friends and family there!

I am delighted to see there are so many other women hitting the road!

We are from Texas too...live 60 miles west of Houston. We have a Newmar too....and really enjoy it. We travel with two little dachshund sisters who will be three the 17th of this month....Names are Kandi and Schugar and they are great little travelers. Your fur-baby's name?

it is good you decided to keep on traveling with your RV. I love it and traveling and feel I'd do the same were I in your shoes.

We have an active group of women travelers--- in fact this month we are having a Rally in Aransas Pass, and at this moment--- twelve ladies and 3 husbands plan to attend.. It's just a fun "just because" get together between friends. Some of us have been on this Forum for a while and have met and Rally with each other... and have become "secondary family"... in the RVing world. Most attending this Rally are of this Forum and then some are Friends of our group and some even friends of friends. I'm delighted that I'll be personally meeting some new gals and adding them to my list of RVing friends as well! It's just an ever growing circle as we welcome and enjoy all!

You are so welcome here and hope you are very active in posting so we can get to know you. You'll soon feel "one of the family".. because the sisters here are most friendly, welcoming, fun and oh yes----- RV knowledgeable as well!

Welcome Susan! This is a fabulous group - incredibly supportive group of women. I full time with a 35' Alpenlite. I've been on the road for a year - although I've spent several months, off and on, staying with friends in various places. This was my fall back position due to some health and financial tough times, but I love it! It's not my back up life anymore! I love the lack of responsibility to 'stuff'. It has been wonderful.

I'm lucky, my boyfriend's colon cancer was caught early enough that we think he's beat it. Diagnosis and treatment was in 2006. So far, so good. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a tough row to hoe. But you've come to a great place for support in this endeavor!

I don't post often but I'm glad you're here. I have a house in Alabama and a park model trailer in AZ. Travel with a 21' fun finder trailer. My husband and I bought the tt just a couple of months before his death. I love traveling and would like to meet more women that want to do the same. I have met Sheila and Kerry in Quartzsite. They are both wonderful friendly women. Look forward to meeting you along the way.

Welcome Susan. I echo everyone else's sentiments. My DH and I sold everything, bought a fifth wheel and fulltimed for nine wonderful years until his health deteriorated to the point I had to place him in an assisted living. Our big fifth wheel is still my home down here in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Last year I couldn't stand not being on the road and so I bought a 23' class B so I can make short trips and also go visit the kids and grandkids in West Virginia and Colorado in the summer. During the last year I have gotten acquainted with a number of women, who, like me, travel alone. I'm one of the group that is getting together in Port Aransas later this month. Why don't you join us?
