Welcome Vicki ! Glad you joined us :D I'm traveling alone in a 37' 5th wheel - I've been on the road for a couple of weeks now. Before I left for my cross country trip I visited campgrounds in my area - I had my brother in law with me the first couple of times, then I had him with me, but just had him watch and only stop me if I was doing something really wrong. Then I did it by myself but ended up asking folks in the campround if it looked like I was doing it right. Now I'm on the road alone and it's scary as heck but it's getting a bit better. Hopefully it'll keep getting better !!! I don't want to get too comfortable though because that's when mistakes are made. A lot of us travel alone in our rigs. You'll probably hear from some of them. It is scary. I don't think there's one of us that didn't white knuckle drive the first few times out (and even months later!). You are taking the right step in having someone teach you and probably the best advice you can receive here is to take everything slowly. Have your teacher take you to a large parking lot not too far from home. Scout one out that might be empty or near empty - say on a Sunday when the store(s) might be closed, or a church yard during the week. Have your teacher drive around explaining what he's doing and why. Practice driving around, making wide turns, judging where you are by the lines, etc. Then at another lesson try backing into the spaces - get out and see how far off you are from the lines. In the beginning you will be amazed how far off you are!
Have your teacher show you how to hook up one thing at a time. Do it over and over. Write down the steps. You watch, then you do it with teacher watching.
After you become more comfortable, drive around the block. Then a wider block, etc. You'll do fine.

Those are good ideas Vicki. I expect you will find your rig much easier than you expected. I did. I do not RV full-time yet but I picked up my rig (used) 2000 miles away from home and then drove it home through five states and into Canada with few problems.
I still say backing up was way less difficult than I thought it would be. There are some good articles around and even a DVD on driving an RV but I just 'winged it' LOL.

Such good suggestions! Thank you all very much. I will be the slowest driver on the road for awhile I'm sure. Do any of you know about a group in Texas called the Ramblin'Roses? I found them on the internet and it looked like a good group to join. Do you all have any annual get togethers?

Ramblin' Roses is the Texas chapter of a club called RVing Women. I am a member of RVing Women but I have never been to any of their rallys or campouts. I am in South Louisiana and have thought about attending one of the Ramblin' Roses campouts when they have one in East Texas. I think they are the closest chapter to me.
There is a club called the Escapees that has a campground in Livingston. I am a member of that club too but haven't made it to Livingston yet either.
Some of the women of the forum have met at get to gethers in different parts of the country but there is no big annual GTG. There was one in Abbeville, LA about 4 years ago and I think about 6 members attended.
My husband doesn't camp so I usually go with my sister. I tried a couple of different clubs but I'm not a card player and that's about all they wanted to do. I like to do wild things like fish and sight see. lol
Good luck on learning to drive your RV. It just takes practice. I hate the big cities and interstate highways too.
