In years past I had a handler who showed a couple of my Bichons. In 2002 I purchased a Maltese puppy, bought our Class A motorhome with plans to travel and show her myself. Since I worked full-time, I figured it would take me a couple of years to get her championship so the motorhome would come in handy. However, she finished in just a few months. I decided not to special her and she has been our pet ever since and has traveled on every trip we have taken.
In the past two years I've rescued two chihuahuas so I guess I am out of "showing" and into "rescuing". Wherever the next year takes you...enjoy the ride

Welcome Gebeep, My ex-DH and I used to show Irish Setters but mostly in obedience yes, Irish Setters can be trained for obedience. We also taught obedience for many years. Now my friends laugh when I tell them as my current three (not Irish) are only obedient when they feel like it! Having an RV would have been so handy, especially as it always seems to be bad weather on the day of the shows. What breed/breeds do you show? Redetotry

Text It's nice to hear from all of you. I have 4 Basenjis & a rescue terrier/hound (I think) mix named Rosie. I just got her last Sept. & she is a gift from God. No one can be in a bad mood when she's around. She is so happy all the time. All my Bs are finished except Boomer, my 6 yr. old male. He hated the show ring so I got him neutered last fall. I want to get a Bull Terrier to show. I don't want to get it until I retire. I think my 2 oldest girls (16 & 13) will be gone by then but you never know. They are mother & daughter & they both have potty problems so Jessica (16) wears diapers when she's loose in the house. I think I'm going to have to start putting one on Diva also. I launder a LOT of crate pads when I get home from work but that's ok; I love my babies.
FFT, do you think a Bull Terrier would travel well? Do you think it would get along w/ Basenjis? I will probably get a girl because Boomer doesn't like male dogs. He thinks he's hot stuff w/ the girls & doesn't want any competition.
Gotta go for now.

Pam, you may want to look into any restrictions campgrounds may have for Bull Terriers - having that breed may restrict where you can stay, having more then 2 or 3 dogs may too. Just something to think about - I only have 1 little terrier mix so I haven't had to research the topic, I do know that some CG's I've looked at only allow 2 dogs.

Hello, and Welcome Pam. Like so many others I USED to show. We had a 5th wheel and showed Chinese Shar-Pei. We traveled all over the country and would enter shows just to go to that State. After the show we'd tootle around and sight-see for a few days. Now I travel with a Pit-Bull rescued dog. I know what a reputation these dogs have, but I've never been refused entry to any campground. Now the job I'm going to has never asked what kind of dog I have, but the owner said she was looking forward to meeting me and my LITTLE dog. Hmmm, this may be a first...

Sparkle, it's too bad people have such bad information on Pit Bulls. They are wonderful, loving dogs. Us dog moms on indypaws.com sure were rooting for jail time for Michael Vick. For a change we were successful. We also protest puppy mills at some of the local Indy pet stores that sell puppy mill puppies. Uncle Bill's being one of them. We don't shop at any pet stores that sell puppies other than rescue operators. Gebeeps Mom

Trudy, thanks for the info about number of dogs. I never gave it any thought. I also never thought I would be refused entry to a campground because of having a Bull Terrier. I wonder if people think they're a Pit Bull. Gebeeps Mom

I don't know if there are restrictions on Bull Terriers but you might want to check it out before getting one - if you really want that breed though, I'm sure you'll find a way to travel with him/her - there has to be CG's that don't have restrictions.
