hello, my husband and I own an RV and have camped for 5 years and love every minute of it. We have recently decided to sell everything we own and go full time, I am thrilled and scared to death at the same time.
Any advice on how to do it smoothly??

It looks as if you're off to a good start. You have your RV, you have xperience. Just start selling stuff and when you are down to basics move into the RV and finish up by either moving everything out and driving away, or selling the house, you would move out at closing. It's a great life. I've been fulltiming for 2 years now and want MORE!

Don't know what state you are from . We are from FL and went fulltime 2 years ago and sold our house.
1. Figure out what state you want to have residency (S. Dakota is thought to be a good place)
2. setting up mail service.
3. be able to access your financial information online (bank, paying bills, credit cards and other investment accounts)
4. check insurance, including rv, toad and medical
5. have internet access i.e. card for laptop
6. maybe join a fulltime group like Escapees and go to rallies that have lots of information and other fulltimers.
You've come to a great place for information, fun and terrific people. carold

Carold, what a good and thoughtful answer. I'd forgotten about needing to do all that.

How does one go about setting up residency in another state? Aren't you required to reside in that state for and X amount of time to legally call yourself a resident? Also you would have to have your vehicles registered and licensed in that state, your driver's license from that state and a legal description of where you reside in that state, not a PO box#. Also your vehicle insurance would change according to that state.

I'm with you AT - the whole "out of state residency" makes me crazy - It's too much for me to figure out so I'm ignoring it for now and just keeping Iowa as my residence and hopefully use the UPS store as my address and mail forwarding service. I need to figure out if the state will let me use that address to register my vehicles and to use as the address on my license. If not, I'll pay my sister to do it for me for a year 'till I get settled into my RV life and then I'll change residency.
Good luck !

With us, Licence tabs and such were cheaper in Eastern WA than Western WA ( where we used to live) . We have our driver's licence, car & motorhome tabs to my Uncles house. If prices keep going up we'll go to South Dakota.
We have been Full-timers for 7 yrs in May.
We use the Escapees RV group to get our mail & discounts on some RV parks and they forward our mail where ever we go. They're great.
I do my banking on-line and have satellite dishes for directv and internet ( Hughes)
We have catastrophic insurance ( because we are retired and no longer have Medical)and Medical Air service if something bad happens to one of us.
We go to Mexico for our glasses and dental work and meds when we are in Yuma AZ which is 20 min from the Mexican border. We travel with three cats so we are the chef & Chauffeur of "The Purr~fect Retreat".

Welcome to you "onthego"
I'm not a full timer,... i camp during warmer months (read: no snow banks!) here in the northeast. I live in my own home and do not plan on full timing.
But I know we have several gals here that will chime in with lots of good advice. I just wanted to add my "welcome!" to the messages!
