Hello all! I am martagrin, and I am so happy to have stumbled upon this message board. My husband and I are in the middle of fixing up our second motorhome, a classic 1976 Dodge Commander. Our first was a beloved family heirloom, a 1973 Dodge Open Road. We camp in the desert frequently, bringing our 2 girls and my Dad with us where ever we go. I am interested in all aspects of motorhome renovations, general camplife.
I love my motorhome and it is my favorite hobby.

We too are happy you stumbled upon our Forum, and that you took the time to introduce yourself so we could get to know you!
WELCOME!!! :)
I'm betting if classic motorhomes are your hobby, you have some "before/after" photos. We'd surely like to see them..
Again..welcome and have a great day!

I do have a few pics - but I'd like to feel my way around here before bringing out my brag book.
I am finishing up my new curtains right now, and will spend a little more time reading threads here tomorrow. So far, I really like what I see here.

Hello Martagrin! Always happy to welcome another member to the California contingent. Pretty soon we'll be able to have our own rallies!
This forum has the best people and it's easy to get hooked.
Can't beat those old classic rigs! What an interesting hobby. Can't wait to see the pics.

Welcome welcome welcome! :) What a rewarding "hobby". Wish I was that talented. There is certainly something to be said about doing things your own way, and restoring and decorating a classic is such a labor of love not to mention a constant reminder of your talents. See you are from California. So am I, and a few other ladies on this forum. Although I am originally from Maine, I've been here for quite some time. We also go to the desert, but to ride ATVs during the winter months. Am intersted to hear more, and see your brag book. Again, Welcome. dcricket, it seems we do the same activities in the desert. We have a Jeep, but are down to only one ATV. We have a large group of people we camp with, usually in Ocotillo. Where do you go?

Hey Marta, and welcome! I'm also from SoCal, and do the dune thing, usually with my jeep club. I've also joined Donna (dcricket) and her family at..oh heck, I just went brain dead and have CRS to boot!!! Anyway, it's on the other side of Gordon's Well. Over the dunes...I'll probably remember at 3AM!!! And have a friend that I go rock jeepin' with. DH and I used to go to Ocotillo for the annual Operation Fun run in October...think it's this weekend. But anyway, hope to meet up with you in the near future, we have a great bunch of gals and 1 great hubby (Donna's Willie)in the SoCal area and do a get-together when we can! And it's always a hoot! Now and then it's good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy. Guillaume Apollinaire

martagrin, sorry I thought I had responded, but I must have gotten bumped out or something. As Sharon said, we normally go to Ogelsby, just past Gordon's Wells, and before you get to Yuma. It's a ways in, but it is not as wild as the other areas, we're real close to the dunes, and we only ride in the sand as we chose not to get our quads all dinged up from the rocks/hard pack. I'm not nuts about taking my rig in as sometimes the drive in/out can be narrow, soft sand, and washboard. I've had the wonderful pleasure of getting stuck twice, second time was worse than the first, but we managed to get her out by ourselves, and she isn't any worse for the experience. Our first big weekend is over Thanksgiving. I think they guys may be going out for Halloween, but I will not go near Glamis on a holiday weekend ever again. Just to crazy/dangerous. I have a Jeep, but I don't take her to the dunes. DH had one he brought out before we got all the ATVs and RV and ended up getting her high centered. That was the end of my Jeepin experience in the hard pack with him. LOL I need to go online and order up my desert passes so we don't have to figure out where we can get them again this year. Who knows, maybe we'll get to see you out there some time? Sharon and some of her family met us out there one year, and like she said we had a good time. She doesn't cut through the dunes like a wild woman like we do, but then again, she is probably the sanist individual in the bunch. I have to run hard to keep up with the mottley men in my bunch. They usually ride much more often then I do, as I'm pretty content to cumbyah round the campsite cooking, cleaning, and relaxing. :) Thinking if Sharon and I go to quartzite this year, maybe putting knobbies on my yellow Honda 400EX (unless I get it sold before then), so we can ride around the area we go camp at. Who knows??? But stay in touch. :) Live, Love, Laugh - Aloha Donna & Willie 05 32' Seabreeze Class A 07 Jeep Liberty Ltd

When I was a kid, we used to go to Glamis twice a month during the season. Now, you couldn't pay me to go there. We have a quiet spot we frequent in Ocotillo, off the beaten path. I camped in the state park area once last season. The dust was so thick and the ambulance screamed passed our camp so many times. Crazy. We go out on Thanksgiving as well. Our tradition is going to Truckhaven, near The Salton Sea.
I've tried to load this image into my signature but couldn't get it to work. Let me try it in a post. This is my beloved motorhome, our 1976 Dodge Commander. The pic was taken during our maiden voyage, in April.
