Hi Genny,
I'm 55, single, pilot a 35-foot Class A and tow a Honda CRV and, all told, my rig is about 60 feet long. Until some jerk directed me the wrong way last summer (#@!$&*!), I never had to unhook to turn around. I've developed an "eye" for where I can pull my rig in and am always looking to make sure I have an exit if I enter.
And the wind? It can be a pain and white-knuckly sometimes. And if it gets too bad? I pull off at a Flying J or rest stop, nose my rig into the wind, pull out my knitting or something and listen to the radio. Take the dog for a walk. Take a nap. Make dinner. Chances are, you'll be lined up with a group of semis also waiting out the wind.
The biggest problem I see with using your rig as your around-town transportation is the pain of hooking and unhooking utilities and sewer each time you want to leave. That, and the parking! LOL!
Genny, I know that at the beginning it all seems so daunting. I used to run all the what-ifs through my head and you know what I've found? When an issue comes up, you handle it and it's never as bad in person as in my imagination. (Besides, if men can do this, it can't be too hard! LOL!)
BTW, I like the renting suggestion. An RV is a BIG purchase (in oh, so may ways! LOL!) and trying it out is a good idea.
Welcome to the forum. janice
PS: My RVs have been well insulated, and when it's HOT HOT HOT outside, it's only mildly uncomfortable inside. An RV is not like a car, where the internal temperature shoots up to 180 degrees. If you close the blinds and use a windshield solar thing, it's not that bad, even without the air.
