2nd trip out

Hi Everyone,
Well my 2nd trip out and my first trip with the Route 66 Good Sams AZ.
Nothing fell off the outside of the RV Thank God. But,lets just say things weren't quite right inside.
Turned out to be alot of road Construction around the Prescott,AZ area. I was having trouble trying to figure out where I was suppose to be and I made a HUGE mistake---turned on to a road of oncoming traffic (lot of fast moving traffic). Naturally I pulled over to the right side of the road off as far as I could get-- and, of course, there was a cop with his flasing lights right behind me. Of course, at that point I was kinda glad to see him because I didn't know how I was going to get myself out of this fix.
Long story short: I ended up with 2 separate warnings(which I guess was a good thing-could have been 2 very expensive tickets). I continued on, got lost, had to get directions. I finally got there and some of the girls were waiting for me at the office (wondering why it took me so long--oh boy).
I learned ALOT. I also felt I really didn't belong here. The group is fantastic and they tried to help me, but, I sure felt I was out of my league.
This was my very first real campout and my very first Potluck type thing. Poor Angel wasn't happy because she had to be left alone ALOT of the time. She even chewed up my miniblinds in the livingroom. I was not happy. I think I have taken care of that problem for the next campout.
My A/C filter grill cover on the ceiling inside the coach kept falling off. I thought I had finally got it fixed, but, no it was hanging by 2 screws when I arrived at the campground. I took it off and put it in the shower--that took care of that problem!! Turns out that the city water connection on the outside of the coach was old and shot so I couldn't screw in my water hose, etc.etc.
Day before yesterday I took it in for a few repairs and had him fix my coach door locks that kept acting up. Now I think I am ready for my next trip. This time to the Flagstaff area. Dying to see what happens on this trip.
I just have to get all the problems solved before I pull out for LODI!!!
I have alittle better idea of what to expect now and I discovered alot of things that I should have had with me that I didn't. I just have to get this right for Lodi---no room for errors like not having all my medications with me.
I am alittle concerned for Angel--I don't think she is enjoying this. We shall see..... Well, I have written you a book again....sorry!!! I get carried away.

Ah Mary...no apology needed for your "book"...it all needed to be told...so you could get it purged and forget about it..
We have been RVing so very long I've forgotten many of the mistakes I made.. In one trailer, left the water pump on while traveling and the one handle faucet "jiggled on" while enroute...and of course the faucet was NOT over the sink...so water ran on the counter-top and off on the floor/carpet!!
Once in a Class C motorhome...back in about 1968...we took off...leaving our little TV on the counter top of the cabinets. As I said 1968..and this was before the days of RV's having cabinets for...or shelves for TV insertion, and it slid off the cabinet and bounced and rolled all down the aisle of the motorhome, coming to rest near us...as if I say "Here I am, Folks"!! Would you believe we still have that little TV...It is bright lemon yellow..a 13"... Only has the lower channel numbers, like they used to come with.. BUT....it STILL plays and has a wonderful color picture. We use it when we are bbqing outside and want to watch a football game or such!!!
Our first trip EVER in an RV...we used all the water we wanted, and first thing we know..the shower is overflowing...Grin..
These things happen to all of us... so don't feel bad!!
I am so glad you had an understanding policeman who gave you ONLY warning tickets...How very thoughtful of him... Bless his heart!!!
I wouldn't give up on the Route 66 Good Sams with only one camping with them.. Give yourself plenty of time and trips to become acquainted with them and with the "RVing language they speak".. Also, give Angel more than one trip to assimilate what camping is all about and to learn to enjoy.
You will do fine, girl. Just give yourself, and Angel time...Experience and practice help immensely!
You CAN do this...and with savoir faire!!!:)

I don't give up that easily. That next trip to the Flagstaff area is with The Route 66 Good Sams. They are really a very nice bunch of people. I did become a member at the last campout. I have even bought my Blue Vest and a few other things so I look like I belong.

Hi, Mary. . . I'm Kath. . . nice to meet you. Thank you SO much for postin' up your little trip report. I love reading about people's trips and it was good to read about somebody headin' out learnin' the lessons.
MAN. . . I know I'm in for some BIG lessons here pretty soon. . . been doin' wild stuff all my life - but the last 23 years of it have been with somebody who is a world class mechanic and having him along for the ride has paid off more than once.
Used to be a pretty hot mechanic myself - back in my VW Bus and motocross days - but that was a long time ago - and the troubleshooting part of some of these systems is what's gonna throw me for a loop.
Soon to be UsedToBeSO/Husband/back to SO is programmed into my HellTel so I can call him from the road if I need help. . . but I'm still prolly gonna have to do the work myself. Just the thought makes my stomach go WEEEEEEEE like I just went over the edge of a roller coaster!
What a grand ride this first solo in the NamelessNewRoadtrek is gonna be!
WHOA!
So. . . it's great to read stories of other galz out makin' it work!

I think we have all gone through some of this at one time or other. When I take off I feel like Murphy's law is in charge, if anything can go wrong it will. If something doesn't quit working on my motorhome, I forget something. My DH says it is like a helicopter, for every hour I drive it, it has to be worked on for 4. Just hang in there and before you know it you will be giving advice.

AZMary, I have to echo what Joella said. She is so right on. We all make mistakes whether it be hitting the battery disconnect when you have stuff in the freezer and not finding out until almost a week or two later (P.U.), not ensuring your cabinets, drawers and closets are properly latched, leaving your TV antennae up, etc etc etc. So glad the policeman was understandable. You'll do fine, and don't worry about getting long winded with responses/initial postings...that too comes with being an RVin Woman :) Hope your trip to Lodi is a Great Success. Hi Mary, As the old saying goes, "you got your feet wet" on this trip. Just remember all of them won't be this way. I could write you a book about the things that went wrong when I soloed with a friend of mine and took my daughter to Colorado. When I got back home, my husband looked with horror at the white rope that was wrapped around and around his hood holding it down, and it went down from there. ;)"What have you done to my truck???" were his first words. Of course, you have to picture this, I am talking about a big red GMC long wheel based, crew cab with 17" tires. I agree, give Angel more time. Also, if you raise the blinds up out of her reach, it is better. I have a poodle and all they want to do is see what the heck you are doing outside. Then all you have to clean are the paw prints and "wet nose" prints off of the windows. Best of luck on your next trip. My poodle liked to get on the kitchen table so she could see out of all the windows. Marslet
