Hi Kitty, I used to sell gourmet coffee and some pastry's at festivals. I always had the theory that as people browsed around deciding what to buy, they almost always will eat. The object is to have a unique product and a unique looking set up. If you sell what everyone else sells, you'll wait on a waiting list to get a chance to sell at many festivals. If you have what no one else has, you are a shoe in. For me, I roasted coffee beans on the spot. Cups of coffee were the highest profit offering 8 or 9 flavors as well as cappuccino and hot chocolates in a variety of flavors. The smell of the coffee roasting drew people in (as well as a good fan above the roaster) The stand consisted of unique antique equipment. (plus it was cheaper to buy working antiques than brand new expensive equipment) If I were to do it again, I'd add home made hot apple crisp. The smell would be awesome and I don't see it too many places. The other thing is that a fast nickle is better than a slow dime. Sell something that people only have to flip a small amount for in whole dollar amounts. It cuts on standing in line. If people have to wait, they will leave. If it is expensive items you're selling and they have to decide or "come back later" they never will and you'll be carrying the stuff from state to state. Traveling festivals is a great time (I don't like fairs, brings in a different element) Craft and art shows are awesome. Familys that travel the festivals also look out for eachother too. Good luck!! Color me dumb....I had to look up steam shows... NOW I realize they are also called Tractor Shows, or Tractor Pulls... We have those here in Texas....but never heard them called steam shows...
Every Sept.we go to a big one in Nebraska. They have LOTS of antiques for sale at that one....among other things..
