Are there any ideas on how to hold your space at the campground when leaving for a while? We bought good cones but would they still be there?

YES...I do think your orange cones will be there when you return!!! You seldom hear of theft in RV parks.
We have also seen a "Occupied" or "Reserved" sign hung at the electric pole...or RV space number pole. They have been made of wood, plastic and even cardboard.

Thanks Jomilt,
We're going to look up Camping World for signs. Great idea, thanks. Gail

I've seen people secure a table cloth to the table and leave their water and sewer hose, get to know your next door neighbor and they'll watch the site for you or even put something of theirs there so it looks like someone is camped there and coming back. Most people are honest and if you tell the rangers they will make sure to not put anyone in your site too.

I suggest you ask the camphosts where you're at what is allowed there. I've discovered that they have various methods and rules to do so. Many of them give you a piece of paper with the date you're leaving - and you need to attach that to where the site number is - and that holds the spot as reserved. Some you need to leave something as others have suggested above.
I have never bought anything special to do so (like the cones) but if you have the space to carry them - not a bad idea. Smiling is contagious - try it!

Found a bright occupied sign on metal stake at Camping World..thanks, Joella. Forgot about the picnic tables, so like the tablecloth idea, too. The small but HEAVY cones (which don't take up much space) are for breakdowns...hubby has a "just in case" mind. Thanks for all the help, gals.
We're anxious to get on the road!! Gail

Hey, you're welcome, Gail!! The tablecloth is a nice idea too...but not all campgrounds have tables. Sure like it when they do!! We carry a table with us, just in case.
Happy Camping!! :)

I also have a picnic table with the benches that fit into the bottom of it ( camping world). I use mine alot. I have the small orange cones and wrote my last name on it so it would not be so sticky fingered by someone or in case it blows away but what I do is fill a ziplock bag with some gravel and put it under the cone and it helps to anchor it. I use the orange cones and safety vests alot at rallys. I wear one of the vests in the evening with a red flasher when I do my walks or ride my bike. It's cooler at night after it gets dark.

If I am in a Campground that doesn't know who is where, I use my yellow folding step stool. I have painted on one side (the approach side) "I'll be back".
I also use the tablecloth ruse, if there is a picnic table.
