Hello, Gals - I've been reading your forum for the past few days and have jumped into the forum. I want to say that you are a supportive bunch.
A little about me - I'm 47, divorced, kids are now all out of the house, and it's way too lonely cooped up in this house. I've camped when I was young and I've also wilderness camped in the BWCA for years. But my favorite travel has been by road, seeing the sights and moving around.
I am planning on dumping the junk in my trunk and hitting the road sometime within a year. My research has brought me to the decision that I'm going to get a 5th as I just like the floor plans the best in a 5th and have no desire to pull a toad. So now for the next step - unloading possessions, selling the townhome and making the big purchase.
I can't wait to join everyone on the road - Sandy

Welcome Sandy, I remember those days from the first little glimmer of "I can do this" to where I am now, living in my RV fulltime. I've been in this same State Park for 4 months now, because I WANT to be, leaving for Florida in the next month or so, then wending my way to my summer Workamping job in Arizona for 6 months. Can you maintain your RV lifestyle without working? If not you might want to look into workamping. Even though you don't at the moment have an RV your input and views will be most welcome, pull up a chair and set a spell. 1984 Class A Allegro(Miss Piggy) Jean the Scot Bogie the Pit (rescued) Shona the Calico Cat

Welcome Sandy, glad you have joined us. I'll be looking to read of your "shopping" for that perfect 5th wheel. There's just the right one out there for you somewhere. This will be an exciting time for you,.... do you have a job that you can do via computer while on the road? Let us know how it's going for you, ok?

Thanks for the welcome. Ahhhh, the work question. I just wish I didn't have to, but I'll be joining the workampers and temp workers. I'm a legal assistant by trade, although I wasn't working during the marriage, so I do have some trade skills in that area. I wish I could be inventive enough to think of a computer trade. My only other skills are quilting and sewing. Not really money makers.
So here are my planned steps:
1. Ebay = fabrics, excess sewing supplies and books; 2. Moving Sale come Spring to rid myself of piano and other such larger items; and 3. Townhome on the market after the moving sale.
The downside is the housing market right now and townhomes are even harder to sell. So I'm trying not to put my sights on a fast sale. It just won't be happening. I thought of renting but when it comes right down to it, I want to rid myself of the stress of a mortgage and renters. When I hit the road, I'd like to be more self contained.
There is an RV show coming up here in the cities in about two weeks so I'm going to go drool over the MH candy and then dream until the house sells. I'll keep you updated on my plans - any suggestions, tips, hints are welcome. Sandy and Bella (da dog)

Hi and Welcome, Sandy.
Glad to have you with us. Just relax and the townhouse will sell when it's time. Maybe fast, maybe not. But real estate comes and goes and the market usually picks up in the spring.
You'll have a lot of fun selecting your rv. Make sure that you look closely at floor plans- as finding what's the right one for YOU is what's important. We all have completely different needs that way.
Hope to see you posting often. Smiling is contagious - try it!

Welcome Sandy. You sound like you've got a real good plan established. I must say you are making me jealous. 47 and doing it. Heck I'm 47 in April and I don't see myself able to come and go for another 8 years. Can only settle for occassional weekend getaways. Certainly not getting away as much as I would like to that's for sure. Will be looking forward to reading of your successes in the near future. Live Love Laugh Aloha Donna & Willie

LOL, Cricket - if it weren't for the divorce and the kids recently leaving to be on their own, I wouldn't be considering this either. I just love taking to the road for trips and I was sitting in my little home thinking, "why the heck not!" I'm in a transition anyway - haven't started in a fulltime career as of yet - already downsized once to the townhome and haven't accumulated toooo much yet - thought it would be nice to get rid of the mortgage and utilities. Now, I may be dreaming and my math may be way off, but from the reading I've done, life can be much easier and more frugal without the brick and motar.
Hopefully I'm not too far off base because this gal seems to have a plan. Thanks for the kind words. Sandy and Bella (da dog)

Sandy.....we were 51 and 54 when we started full-timing......we didn't have to sell house cause we had done that a couple of years before...so your plan would be the way to go.....as for the "stuff"...if it is "stuff" the kids would like any of it, tell them to come get their inheritance....that's what we did...lol...then the yard sale....lol....Have fun shopping for that "Home on Wheels"...and get what you want and what you think you can handle.....both driving and the price........in the mean time, welcome and am looking forward to your posts...
