I worked in Smith and Chandler last summer and will return there in the spring. The store I worked in the year before closed. It didn't break my heart for sure!! I remember talking to several who were from Island Park. Perhaps you were one of them.

My husband and I worked in the park 14 seasons, and I worked there 3 alone. Love the area up there.

I am new to the idea of being a solo rv traveler and would like to get more info. I've missed the couple of rallies in my area this year due to bad weather but would like to find out more. It seems like alot of the rv'ers are women my age (late 50's) and I admire how they are able to be brave enough to take off to fun places whether it be solo or with a buddy. It is something I would like to do in future but would really like to get my feet wet by accompanying someone who has experience. Do you ever hear about any of the rv ladies who are looking for a travel buddy to share driving (if they would trust a driver other than themselves) and expenses of a trip.

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with Joella that most will not want anyone to share their RV. Perhaps you could rent one for a weekend or a week and attend a rally. You could get some answers to your questions and see what kind of rigs some others have. Just a thought.

Thanks for all the info. I actually had planned to go to the rally outside Dallas and then again outside Kerrville but weather (and then flu) kept me from going. I had already talked to a few of the members via email about the Texas chapter and had booked a cabin at each rally. I certainly understand why someone would hesitate to have a stranger ride along with them -- for safety reason I, too, would not do that. What I thought might be a possibilty was to find someone around the S.A. area who would prefer to travel with a buddy than travel solo-- and get to know them first. I would never just jump in a cab with anyone - because of the safety issue as well as finding out about compatability. I guess I originally got the idea from a lady I knew thru line dancing. She had an RV, was widowed and traveled even out of state with just her dog. One day at line dance she announced she had room for someone to go with her cuz she didn't like going it alone. I felt a little bad for her cuz at least on that trip she didn't have any takers (we all knew her, just nobody could go at the time). I haven't seen her for several years but thought a similar situation would be a good thing for me. There are alot of places I'd like to see but I'm just not brave enough to rv it alone . It sounds like most of the women have had alot of experience rving with their husbands or someone else who has shown them the ropes. I did have a little 15 footer with a former boyfriend but, to tell you the truth, he did all the work. I just rode, crocheted and did the cooking when I wish now I had learned how to drive the thing. But I appreciate all the info you've given.

I'll check the website to find out dates etc about the Fredericksburg one. That would be close and, unless for bad weather, I would like to make it. The few people I've talked to on website/email were very friendly and they too said to just come up for the fun even if I don't have rv. I do like the idea that you guys have a game nite -- nobody I know likes to play cards or board games and I love to. I didn't know about a convention in s.a. - I knew there was a meet at Braunig Lake but I thought that was just for members. I just got back from Austin today -- went for a concert. I stayed in hotel but was thinking it would have been nice to be tucked into my own little "space". I saw several rigs along the way but they were BIG -- can't EVER see myself handling somethings like those. But, maybe if I get to attend a few rallies, I'll be able to get the courage to handle a little, dinky thing. We'll see.
