I did it!! Much to the surprise of everyone (including myself at times)!! I purchased a 2007 DoubleTree Select Suites 36' 5th wheel!! No tow vehicle, going to get tow service at least for now.
Very nervous!! All these decisions!! I tried to change my home satellite to the RV---no can do unless I install a new system- app $3500!!!The satellite hookup has only one line in and I need the double-I LOVE my DVR!! DirecTV. Still working that one out. Willing to change to DishNetwork if it will work!!! ANY IDEAS???
The maintenace guy at the dealership suggested that I add an auxillary gas cylinder- about 100lbs. That is about $350!!! I know I will need lots of propane but do I REALLY need to upgrade now?
You guys just seem to make it "look" easy, truly a great support. So I will be "crying" often, apologizing in advance!!! Thanks in advance also!!
Oh BTW. MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone!!!

Woo Hoo !!! Congratulations on your new purchase !! What a Christmas gift :D I don't know why it'd cost so much to do the TV thing, but then I don't understand allot of things. I looked at the Double Trees and they're really nice - I think you'll be very happy :D Enjoy and good luck ! I don't know WHY Satellite antenna installation would be so very high. Ours was far less than that and it's an automatic antenna. We bought it at Camping World and was around $900. It has two leads in to run two satellite receivers. They do make an antenna that is a mobile automatic that changes as you head down the highway, but you don't need that since you have a 5Th wheel and you'd not be pulling it and watching Satellite TV at the same time.
You said you are going to use a tow service for now. Did you mean to move it to the park where it will stay? If so, I don't see why you couldn't have a FREE antenna and receiver from a local company installed just as you would in a home, an apartment, etc. In fact I don't see why Dirct TV wouldn't move it for you.
Don't go with Dish Network. Their programming comes on two satellites, and the RV antennas don't have "skew" on them to get both satellites at the same time. You cannot watch different shows on two different receivers. Direct TV is on one satellite and all programing on the one.
Does the RV park you are going to stay in have propane for sale, or a propane truck that will be coming through? I'd manage on the two propane bottles you have now...and check out supply and demand needs first before I blew $350 on a larger tank.
If you have more questions feel free to ask...We on this Forum love to help out of new members.
Glad you are with us! Congratulations on your wonderful new home! Will you be full-timing? Have a wonderful night!
Joella

Congratulations on your new 5th wheel.
Who told you that you need a $3500 satellite system? I'm with Joella, you can get one a lot cheaper from Camping World and probably other places. My motorhome came with a King Dome system and I just take one of my receivers with me from my house. You just can't get the local channels if you subscribe to them. You could also get a portable dish for $50 to $150. It's not easy to aim a portable dish but I have done it. There are a lot of full-timers that have Direct TV and it shouldn't cost any more than a home service.

Congratulations Jennifer!
What a sweet Christmas present! Relax and enjoy it. You will adjust each area to your liking as you go.
I agree with the other girls, you can hold off on that auxillary tank until you see if you really need it. I have a small tank, and just get it filled more often is all. No problem for me.
Merry Christmas!

Congratulations! May you have wonderful memories in your new home!
Just adding to what Joella said, if you really do need to change your satellite dish (I wonder about that, but what do I know?), you can buy a nice, new one at Camping World and just tell them you have Directv and they will set it accordingly. I put an automatic one on my rig last year. I don't know who told you the system on your rig wouldn't work without spending all that money, but I'd check with a Camping World or at least a different RV repair shop.
I also agree about the propane - see how long your current tanks last you. The biggest user would be your furnace and you can supplement that with a portable electric heater. You might want to check and see if your hot water tank has an electric rod (or perhaps see about installing one, if you go through the propane too fast).
Enjoy!
