Hi Sue,
I used to do stained glass work- guess I've always liked working with glass. I still have lots of stained glass, supplies and the equipment, but haven't made a panel in many years. I can melt down some of the glass for beads, but I haven't kept records on the types of glass - every family of glass has a different thermal expansion rate when cooling - so they can't be mixed because they will break when cooling. Beads made from only one color of glass are pretty, but not really interesting.
Thanks for the invite. I hope to be in Minnesota late summer for the gathering of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers (ISGB). It will be in Minneapolis late July. Whether I go or not depends, on my husbands's health at the time. If I do come up, I will be in the "BlingMobile" (my name for my studio on wheels, since FireBling is my business name), so we could get together and you could see a demo (maybe even try your hand a making a bead!).

SuZie - that Pink Sparkler bracelet is absolutely beautiful! In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years. Abraham Lincoln

Your DH sounds like a hellofa guy!! Welcome
Is there an actual 'bead circuit'?
I do some steam shows and flea markets. Was way into it for awhile, then folks got in big for a few years and I stopped (Dad sucked the life out of it for me) But when I go to being a full timer that is mainly what I think I will do.

There is not a "bead circuit" per se. But, there are bead shows all over the US and many bead artists have a set they do every year. Beads are big and "bead ladies" travel all over to buy them.
Bead shows are very competitive and my approach will be to do some small bead shows and some arts/crafts shows. There is a publication you probably know about, called "Sunshine Artist" and it lists all the shows throughout the US. Every other year they provide detailed reviews of the shows in a book that is around $40. I plan to use this book to determine my "circuit." I'm probably going to limit myself to mostly western states. Many, if not most of the shows are jurried, so getting in is the big thing.
Though I have sold a lot of beads and do commissions, I am still learning my craft and not yet ready to compete with the top bead artists out there. Some are truly amazing, having worked beads for 20 years more, and I've been fortunate enough to be able to study with several of them. I will stick to smaller shows (which I have done a few) for the first couple of years.
Right now I don't have a lot of time for practice,(though I do get on the torch regularly, even if it is just for an hour or two) prefering to spend time with DH. but once I am on my own, that's probably what I'll do most of the time (LOL!). I have a couple of commissions backed up and need to get on them but I have been distracted with RV thing......
DH IS amazing. He's a guy, though. So he's frequently irritating to me (as I'm sure I am to him!) My girlfriend and I used to get together over coffee and whine about our menfolk. She said, "I think we're all married to the same guy." Hah! Truthfully, he is very loving and generous. Seeing him suffer is hard.
Thanks for the welcome and good luck on finding your own circuit.

Hi SuZie, loved the beads! Very talented craft you have there and yes with your own little studio it will be nice to do shows and have your little piece of heaven right behind you. Sorry to hear about your DH suffering, he is a very special guy to help you plan for the days ahead without him. A very caring soul.

I Said A Prayer For You Today
I Said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard- I felt the answer in my heart although He spoke no word I didn’t ask for wealth or fame. I knew you wouldn’t mind, I asked Him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind, I asked that He’d be near you at the start of each new day. To grant you health and blessings and friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you in all things great and small, but it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all. What a wonderful thing for your husband to do with and for you. I am sure over the years those memories will help you through many hard times. It is wonderful that you are using your craft to not only travel but make money for your travels.
I admire you for making plans for your future and enjoying the time you have with your DH.

LiZ & Nan, Thanks for the prayers and kind words.
Sorry it took so long to reply. My husband and I were out of town picking up a truck to haul my Raptor! Don't have the 5th wheel yet, but (weather cooperating) we will pick it up this coming Thursday.
This is bitter sweet and a bit too fast for me. I figured I would plan everything slowly - it would be the thing to keep me sane during the worst parts of DH's illness. But DH is stubborn, so here we are!
