31 minutes ago – The Texas Forest Service is reporting that approximately 429 homes have been destroyed in the 38 large fires that are currently burning.

************************************************************************************************************

Due to our drought, many local ponds and stock tanks are dry- So there is little available water to fight the fires. Winds are gusting to 25 mph... Plus, wildfires "make" stronger winds, and one fire 40 miles from us is 16 miles long.

We have no rains projected until late September, if then.

Pray for our state, please.

Our son just called and they were awakened by air horns of a firetruck honking. It had come thru the gate and right up to the porch...delivering news of a mandatory evacuation. He wanted to know if he could bring his five dogs (all rescue) and put them in our fenced back yard. I know he's worried about his 500# pet pig whom he loves dearly...but no way to move Uncle Snort.

I told them they could stay here... bed linens just changed today... but he hasn't a clue as to what they'll be doing...nor when they'd be here, he just wanted a safe refuge for the dogs. He lives 30 miles from here.

Sure hope Scott's home is spared. Friends of mine in Dripping Springs were ordered to evacuate today. They will all be in my prayers.

As if Texas hasn't suffered enough this summer! Praying that you are all safe, Joella. I know you guys don't mind a few more dogs in the yard or family in the spareroom if it means your dear ones are safe with you. Let's hope they get a handle on the fires soon.

We had a few small showers yesterday here in So. Cal. - wish I could somehow send it to you.

Son's dogs are doing well and staying calm at a strange place. They did get out, squeezing between the gates... all except the old, fat dog! One of the Lab's got out later, she can jump the fence. We got them all in at 2:30 this morning... and blocked the gate so they can't escape-- that is except for the jumper. Luckily once they are out, they do stay here.

We have their Catalina Macaw bird too... but she's calm and fine.

Our son left here at 12:30 AM and had to go back to his neighborhood to help talk his elderly neighbor who lost his wife a few months ago into leaving.. They moved all he wanted out of his house and did talk him into evacuating. Then our son and wife went to a motel near work in Houston.

He called a few minutes ago... and has done what he needs to do at work, and they were told they could leave, so are going to go check on their home. The fire has moved closer to his property and he doesn't really expect to be allowed back in.... If he is, they have some more things they wish to move out.

I didn't tell him his dogs escaped---- We got them penned again and he doesn't need to worry about that.

Update 3:30 PM

They've been informed the fire is within one mile of their property--- but the wind has changed and is blowing away from there. They have all been told no one will be able to go back to their homes tonight.. He can get no closer than five miles. He's returned to work, and will stay at the motel again tonight.

We, along with our dogs have all spent time together outside and all is going better, with our dogs not being so upset about five strangers on their property.. So far---- so good.

Thanks to everyone for their concern and continued prayers for those in our state who are threatened.

God Bless!

Joella

Scott just called and winds have changed... fire has jumped the firewall they'd constructed and is heading his way again.. Not sounding good right now.

Asked about chances of going in with truck and trailer to get his pet Pig... Uncle Snort and was told NO.... He is so fond of that pig... and heartbroken he had to go off and leave him.

He can get within 8 miles of his house one way.... and 3 miles another.. Not letting anyone in any further than that.

Work is surprised and so appreciative they are coming in daily... but he said what else can you do... sit in motel room or beside the highway 3 miles from home and worry?

Still saying my prayers.. thanks all for your prayers and support.

Joella
