Fall 2011 Flamingo Flocking!
Greetings girls! Here are the highlights of the plans for our Fall Flocking in the Brenham, Texas area (greater Washington County).
This was just sent out earlier this evening by email to the gals who have been to previous rallies and already several have responded that they will be there. Hope more of you will be able to join in the fun. This is an very informal group - no dues - no officers - no rules - just a lot of fun. Y'all are welcome.
Date: November 18,19,20
Location: Dixieland RV Park - driving directions will follow later

Rate for our Flocking is $22.00 for two adults/rig per day ($5.00 for each additional adult)
Texas is very dry at this time so most of the shady/green that we are accustomed to enjoying at previous flockings is probably not going to be a fact for us this year (unless we have a tropical storm or hurricane before we flock). Nonetheless, Dixieland RV Park in Carmine, Texas, just about 2 blocks off TX Hwy 290, and west of Brenham a few miles, has all pull throughs, with a meeting room for us to use at no charge if we have at least 7 rigs (easy for us!) Paula Watkins, part of the owner team says she cried when the pond finally dried up. She and her husband are lovely people and are anxious to do all they can to make our stay pleasant.
We are using the "Buddy System" for reservations.....EVERYBODY FOR THEMSELVES. Please mention that you are part of the Pink Flamingos.
Some additional details of the park include: There is a small sleeping cabin available if anyone is interested.....can sleep two, laundry available, quiet and well maintained facility, central location to attractions in the county and walking distance to several promising antique shops. Sites have free WiFi, electric, water, and gray water drain. There is a dumping site on the premises for black water and on-site rv repair by a certified technician is available.
What is there to do while we are there?
The weekend we flock Brenham's Heritage Belles, in period dress, guide guests through historic Brenham homes decorated for the holidays. The Guiddings-Stone Mansion will house dealers displaying an array of unusual items for sale. (Holiday Homes Tour and Trunk Show)
This same weekend Ellison's, a local wholesale nursery known for its poinsettia production, is having its annual celebration of this flower. Plant seminars, entertainment, food, tours of the greenhouses and a poinsettia Christmas tree await our inspection.
There are 3 wineries
A restored historic cotton gin and museum tours.
Washington on the Brazos State Park and historical museum. Texas declaration of Independence was written and signed at this site shortly after the fall of the Alamo. Under the leadership of Sam Houston, 59 men agreed to declare Texas a free, sovereign, and independent republic and wrote a constitution. This is the Birthplace of Texas.
Brenham is home of Blue Bell Creamery and there are tours twice daily Monday -Friday. Anyone wanting to tour will need to be at the creamery by 2:15 pm on Friday afternoon. Please let Shirley know if you are interested as we will need to advise the creamery if there are more than 10 of us going.
Just as a note of interest- have you noticed the bottles of Brianna’s gourmet salad dressing near the lettuce display in the refrigerator case at the HEB? It's made in Brenham too!
Downtown Brenham is door to door quaint shops....most of the antique variety. There is an old fashioned bakery, museum, an imported coffee company, and a place called Almost Heaven where the lady at the Visitor Center assures us they sell fabulous PIE.
Lake Somerville has hiking trails and may have some water in it if we are lucky.
If this isn't enough to keep you busy there are small gem-like towns of less than 200 residents with home cooked meals and more antique shops all over this county and within 15 miles of Dixieland RV Park.
In addition to all this.......we are still planning for the Flamingo special times together at the park. If anyone has a great suggestion for our get-togethers at Dixieland Park let me hear from you.
This is all we can handle for now.....we are tired out just thinking of all the fun we are going to have. This should be enough to get you started planning. Make your reservations NOW and don't risk missing out. Let Shirley know if you are interested in the Creamery and/or Heritage Home tour.
We are excited!
Shirley and Darlene, co-hostesses
P.S. Start saving your dimes....you're gonna wanna buy SOMETHING in this place!
