I am giving up on the portable Dish satellite I've attempted to use for months and want to replace it with an automatic dish. The company who sold me the first dish suggested an automatic portable dish by Wingard. I read some reviews and it sounds all right but before jumping in I would like to know if anyone has one of these dishes or what is the recommendation for an automatic system.

I have the portable one that fits in the black round case and love it.

What are your issues, and do you have dish or direct

I have the Dish because its what we have at home. I would spend hours trying to locate a satellite for the portable dish. Only three times in a year was I able to do it and never without a lot of help. Most times it was hours of frustration so I decided it wasn't worth it. I'm going to sell it to someone more patient or lucky!

I have direct and haven't had any problems. But I have heard dish is harder to set up. Will your automatic be mounted on your rv? If so then you have to be careful where you park so it will work

Reading the on line information its a small dome you can set it outside your rv on a tripod with a flat top or you can crawl up and set it on your roof. The biggest problem Ive read so far is that is so small that it is easy stolen unless you chain it down.

Good luck with it and let us know how it works.

Give Acadianmom a holler.. She has one of those portable dishes and LOVES it!! Will send you her mailing address in case you don't have it.

Don't blame you for wishing to go automatic. I've been right where you are--- and it truly tries your patience! Great decision!

Happy shopping!

The portable dish I have is one of the VuQubes. Probably about the same as the Winegard, just a different company. I'm surprised I didn't throw the tri-pod dish in the lake it was so agrivating. When I first started using the VuQube I was having trouble with it and messed with it so much I never would know what I did that made it work. I think I wasn't giving it enough time to search. If I will just hook it up, turn it on and go fishing it usually has the signal when I get back. Sometimes I have to reboot the receiver but that's about all. My concern also is that someone could walk off with it. I think the Winegard and mine too have a plate to mount it on a ladder. I don't have a ladder but don't think it would be that easy to carry it up and put it on the ladder every trip. It wouldn't be that big a deal to just bring it inside if you are going off for the day and set it back up when you get back.

What ever you get just be sure it is one that automaticly finds the satellite.

When is your contract up on Dish? We have Directv and within minutes have a signal with the portable dish on a tripod. Do you use a compass? Do you have one of those $15.00 signal finders from Radio Shack? I've heard finding a signal with Dish vs. Directv is difficult. I'm glad we have Directv now.
