Today I took a boat tour of the Soo Locks. I am glad I went in the morning as we have had rain showers the rest of the day. I was not sure if I should wear sunglasses or carry and umbrella. The weather changed that quickly and back again. I posted pictures on the blog and tried to post videos. I thought they were there but they weren't ,so I went back in and posted them again. Don't have a clue why they didn't post the first time as I did them the same way. A mystery! The locks are just facinating. 23 feet of water, 800x80 feet, drain out in about 20min. If you were not looking, you would not even feel the going up and coming down. We went through the locks and turned around near Canada to come back through. I just wish the weather was better as I would sit on a park bench along the river and watch the ships go by. I did not mention on the blog, but they are building another "Super Lock" adjacent to the ones we went through. Unlike the Mac Arthur Lock, which only took 14 months during war time, this one will take 10 years to build. I was planning on a day trip to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, but I did not realize it is 75 miles from here, one way. I will have to think about that. In the meantime, I have been reading up on the wrecked ships coming from Lake Superior. Most shipwrecks on the Great Lakes occur in Nov. Seems a strange time of year, but the winds, which I have experienced, can be quite fierce. The most famous wreck was the Edmund Fitzgerald. Right up until they lost contact, the EF said it was OK, then gone. They have brought up the ship's bell as a memorial to the 29 crewmen who died on the wreck. There is a museum in town, which I will probably check out tomorrow.
