We had discount coupons so Ann and I took the Jeep in to Amarillo for breakfast. Two biscuits and gravy, 3 sausage, two eggs. We went to the famous Big Texan the company providing our steak dinner this week. We'll probably go back with another coupon!

If you can eat the 72oz steak in one hour it is free. Otherwise it is $72.

This was the dining room where we will be.

This is the steak. They cook one every day for display and if no one takes the challenge they cut it up into regular size portions. I hope one of our RR will be up for it.

We drove along I40 which is also the famous Route 66 and stopped in an antique area.

Walking back to the car we saw this wall painting.

I guess everything in Texas is BIG. Has anyone ever been able to eat one?

Of 30,000 who have tried about 8,000 have done it. There was a list of the current people who have done it and I think there were about 20. I had seen it on the Food and Travel channels.

We were at the BIG Texan just a few weeks ago...great steak by the way! Not only do you have to eat the steak, but some other stuff too. I read that the fastest time eating this meal was 8minutes 52 seconds (burp!). Would've loved to have seen that one. Did you notice the cameras above the area where you have to eat this? Guess too many people have tried to cheat!

They serve the best yeast rolls....

I think my son would be able to until you had to eat other stuff as well but then forking out the 72 $ would be a pain!!

again enjoyed the pictures

Are you all planning on doing any hiking in the canyon itself? I stayed in the state park there lastyear, but only one night and didn't have time for much hiking. Just a little around my campsite. Views of the canyon were amazing - one of my top 3 favorite sights in TX. Are you going to the outdoor drama - that sounds wonderful to me but don't know if I'll ever be there in the summer.

Hi Viki,

I so wished I could have made this TRR Rally! Maybe next time.

I have eaten at the Big Texan years ago. A very interesting place, to say the least. :-) No, I did not try to eat the 72 oz steak. :-)

Thanks for posting pics. I look forward to more info and pics about all the fun y'all are having.
