I got to the RV service place and the very nice people there crawled under my rig to see why I was loosing fluid from my hydraulic jacks. It seems the seals are bad. They explained that they did not have the parts and it would take amonth to get the parts to fix it. They will cost between $250 and $300 each and there are 4 of them. The worst is the driver side rear. The others are not so bad. Of course, I was not staying there for a month. The tech told me it will not hurt anything to use them, but I will have to keep adding fluid. Not a problem, I will get some to keep on hand. I asked what cause it and he asked me if it had been sitting for a long time. I told him I had wintered in FL and it sat for more than 6 months. He gave me a tip I did not know. He said you should put your jacks up and down as the action helps lubricate the seals and keeps them from drying out and cracking. That makes sense, I just wish I knew it when I first bought the rig. They told me there was no charge and I was on my way. I traveled 313 miles yesterday and arrived in Gettysburg around 6. By the time I gave Maggie a nice walk and made supper, I was beat. I usually am tired on the travel days. Think it is because you have to stay so alert and even though I stop at rest stops it is not the same as really relaxing. It is supposed to have thunder showers today, but the next few days will be nice. Think I will save picture taking until it is nice out.

expensive lesson to learn. the same goes for gaskets on slide outs. Need to run the room in now and then make sure the gaskets don't dry out. Any rubber (even tires) needs a little extra attention when sitting in the weather. You'll be like a lot of us and just keep the hydraulic fluid handy. Nice to fix and need to fix are two entirely different things.

Karen - thanks for the tip. I have been told again and again that these big machines need to be worked - in other words used!!

Safe travels & enjoy, Linda

Thanks heaps, Karen! Our present RV is our first with automatic jacks, and no one had told us to exercise them. Need to add that to the list of monthly maintenance chores to do! Your experience probably has saved many of us mega-bucks!!

Glad you have moved on!

Happy Travels!

Joella
