Needing a Passport, a friend and I went to downtown Houston, and had to park several blocks away from the needed location. We walked to the building, talking as we went and got our Passports --- and a European Driver's License for me.
When we left to go back to the car, she hadn't a clue as to where it was! When I'm a passenger, I pay no attention and just notice the "pretties" of the world as we travel along. She went into Panic Mode. I must admit it did hit my mind about having to call someone to come all the way to downtown Houston to pick us up!
I told her to hold on a minute. Knowing which direction we came from to access the Passport building location, we headed off in that direction. I watched closely as we walked and let my mind assimilate things I'd seen as we walked and talked. We made several turns at corners, and I got us back to her car.
From that point on, I never let anyone lose me again---- and paid attention to what was going on.
In Paris, we took a tram and walked some too to go tour the Eiffel Tower. On the way back to the hotel, she was thoroughly convinced we were going the wrong way. Told her to trust me and give me 3-4 blocks more and we'd be back to the hotel. Whew!! We made it!
Many times, we'll take the truck or Jeep shopping instead of the usual car....and when we exit the store, I'll have that momentary blank mind and "where is my car feeling"!! Happens to us all.
Happy Travels!
