In following rabbit trails on the Internet, I found this. I'm saving it to my computer, as I KNOW one day one of our shade strings could break.
New shades, $150 a piece. That won't happen. Bought 100 feet of cord, downloaded a diagram and got to it. It was not hard at all, just a little time consuming. I purchased sturgeon fishing line at Walmart. It doesn't fray like the string does, supports heavy use and looks perfect. And, a lot cheaper!
The cause of the string breaking is sharp edges on holes drilled in the aluminum framework. I cleaned off the sharp edges with a screwdriver to eliminate the problem.

Looks pretty complicated, but maybe won't be so bad after you get started, and if I can rebuild a pump or a motor guess I could manage this. Jo, don't tell me you've already had to do this in your brand new coach??? Would think this would be covered under some kind of a warranty. Thank goodness mine are all still good, altho I have one that needs to be tightened, it keeps slithering down. Thanks for the info.

No... one of our strings has not broken. But, am saving that info for the "what-ifs".

The longest we kept an RV was our Itasca, made by Winnebago was five years --- and we NEVER had a string break. I expect these to last too.

On tightening your string, Sharon--- do you have a deal on the wall that looks sort of like a "bobbin" from a sewing machine? You just pull on that string that is loose, stretch it out and take another wrap around the "bobbin holder"... Pretty easily done if you have that type set up.

Also we had a couple of small spots on our day/night shade by the table, and I sprayed it with Shout.. rubbed on the spot until it was gone. It cleaned off beautifully, leaving no discoloring or water spot.

Happy Traveling!

Joella

Thanks for the tip Jo, yes that's the type I have and thought that was what I had to do. Thanks also for the Shout tip, mine are fine, but the BF has one that looks like it might have been sprayed by coke or something, so I'll try that on it.
