If you are planning a trip to Texas late March or early April to see the Bluebonnets and other wildflowers, this spring is the perfect time to do it.
We had a pretty good snow today, and then it got too cold and turned to sleet. It was lovely while it lasted.
Our local TV weathermen and news people are telling us that our extended cold and freezing weather this winter has really been "working" on the flowers. It is holding back the above ground growth....but the root system is growing like gangbusters. Therefore, when spring comes and the above ground growth catches up to that superlative root system we are going to have a wonderful wildflower show in our state.
Just wanted to let y'all know....so you could be making some bucket plans to hit our state this spring!!
Love to have you visit our state!

I think TX has the prettiest wildflowers I have seen anywhere! I have pics of the GDs when they were small and we lived in San Antonio sitting in a field of bluebonnets...they were actually in the medien of the highway!

I just loved Texas and can't wait to go back for some more exploring! Up until Evie (Pooker) and I did that road trip down there my sole experience in Texas was Amarillo....Not really anything there to get excited about except for the steak house I went to.

That's what happens to many, Sharon. They drive across the northern panhandle of Texas and think that is all there is to our state......sand and cactus. Many never realize how diverse our state is.

For those who would like one, Texas Tourism puts out a marvelous Texas Tour Guide yearly. It's 8 1/2" X 10" size and runs about 200 pages each year. It is full of photos and descriptions of parts of Texas. I wish every state had one and I'd have a collection of all of them.

Linda, late March or early April is the best time to come to Texas for our wildflower season. The month of April is generally the peak time for wildflowers.

When the time grows near, this website will have postings of where the wildflowers are.

I made my reservations just this morning for four nights in Fredericksburg in mid-April. There are five rigs from our park going up and they invited me to tag along. Can hardly wait as the wildflowers should be gorgeous this year with all the rain we've had. Good friends, wildflowers, good German food and wine from the hill country wineries - life just doesn't get much better!!

Joella-

The Texas Visitor's Bureau should appoint you a Texas Ambassador for Tourism! Not many of us can say we love our state as much as you do! It is a grand state, and I don't blame you for being proud. You have just about any terrain a body could want - beaches, rolling plains, mountains, desert and woods and the friendliest folks you'll find anywhere! Your state welcomes snowbirds with open arms while the rest of the sunbelt moans and groans about them!

Now everyone will just HAVE to visit to see what all the hoopla is about!
