Eddie
I know so many of you are animal lovers and some of you will be mad at me when I share what happened yesterday. Went for my daily walk on the beach. Eddie (my dog) Loves the beach, to run and explore so I usually let him off leash so he can enjoy himself. Met a woman walking and she asked me if I had seen the whale. A 48 ft sperm whale had washed up on shore and people were flocking to see it. I immediately turned around to head in that direction, still chatting with the woman. I looked around for Eddie and before a fully formulated thought that there was an exceptional amount of car traffic and maybe I should leash him, he ran right into a car or under or something. I ran to him and tried to check him for injuries and he bit the heck out of me. It was chaos for a while with me bleeding all over the place, sand and people. I had no shoes, no wallet, nothing. The couple whose car hit him were animal lovers also and we determined that he didn't seem to have internal injuries and wasn't bleeding so we could try and move him. They drove me to the local vet and they were awesome! Eddie has a broken pelvis and needs surgery. The vet says nobody around here does that kind and referred me to a c linic in San Antonio. The vet was concerned about my bites as well and her receptionist worked the phones trying to nget me seen by a dr.We had to file an animal control report but since I am both victim and owner he could be home quarantined. After runnning back to the RV park to get my wallet with insurance info the dr office wouldn't see me because they're not on my plan . Called my insurance co and found an urgent care center in Corpus. The wonderful couple, Roger and Joyce, assured me that they would love to take me there so several hours later I had a tetanus shot, and scrip for antibiotic. One of the ladies who lives here full time wanted me to call a clinic in Corpus because she was sure they could do the surgery and that would be infinitely more convenient and drove me over there for the second opinion. That vet concurs with the first that he needs the surgery. Have an appt Thursday in San A. He will see dr in am and have surgery i afternoon, then stay overnight one night and I can take him home Fri morn barring any unforseen complications. Still trying to figure out all arrangements. Looks like I will try and rent a car here for 2 days, drivein to San A and spend niight either in hotel or with friend in Kerrville, then pick Ed up and drive back here on Fri. If I drive the rig up to San A, I'd have the problem of negotiating that city to the clinic and that city was a pain to navigate in a car. I'm just feeling so guilty now as he seems so miserable and it's all my fault. Thank God it's fixable and for the many many kindnesses of strangers.

Oh, Kelllie...don't feel guilty or as if it is your fault. None of that is so. Accidents happen!! There is no way you are at fault. I am so glad to hear that Eddie's injuries can be fixed. That is wonderful. Life is mountains and valleys..and your's just hit one of those heart breaking low-spot valleys.

This too will pass...and all will be well in your world again...and you and Eddie will be on that mountain top... enjoying your RVing lifestyle..

Hang in there, dear RVing Sister...and know we are all thinking of you and sending up prayers for you and Eddie.

God Love you both. Take care!

Joella

Joella is so right accidents happen!!! and that is what this was. If we all had a magic ball that showed us what the day was going to be like we wouldn't learn and grow! we learn from those incidents in our lives...And it looks like you lucked out and had the best help that you could have had at the time...take care of yourself and Eddie

Yup - stuff just happens - and as many of you know - I've cleaned that up! We all do the best we can - and sometimes it still just happens. Take care of yourself because Eddie is going to rely on you after the surgery. And I once had kitty get hit because he was running across the street to see me. All these years later I am still traumatized by animals near cars - and this was in 1978. He had a spinal fracture - but lived to tell the tale. Hang in - it all will pass.................

I agree with the other gals, stuff happens and it feels awful! But in your case, Eddie will be fine, your nerves shattered for awhile, BUT it sounds as if you have met some wonderful people in Roger and Joyce! Isn't it odd how we meet the nicest people sometimes?

Thoughts are with you....

UDATE!!! Sorry, took puter to San A, but jst too whipped at night to log on. Surgery was huge success. We are back home to Port A. He is alert, clear-eyed and can wag his tail again. He can eat, drink and use the potty. I got a sheet of care instructions, a bag of meds and my sweet boy back. Now I just have to figure out ways to keep him "inactive" for 6 whole weeks! Will post some pics later. Thank you for all your concerns and prayers. I know they helped, him and me.
