Just bought a two door Jeep Wrangler so I can tow it. Now my question is - what recommendations do you all have for a tow bar that is so easy even I can hook and unhook it without trouble. And hook it so well the auto doesn't go a different direction than the RV.

I think I'd look at the Blue Ox lineup. I've always liked them........

I too recommend the Blue Ox. It's what we have, and what we have always used through the years. It has "movable arms"...so you don't have to drive up to the tow bar "just right" in order for you to hook up. It's simple to use.

Here's the website. Give them a call. No one can help you as much as they can. Tell the the weight of your Jeep and they can recommend which Blue Ox model you need.

Congrats on the Jeep. You can exist without a tow, but sure is nice to have one.

Happy RVing!

OK, while we are on this subject, I've been wondering about the brake buddy or similar systems. When is it required to add one of those? Do you automatically have to use one, is it based on the weight of the toad???? These are the types of questions that come to mind when I think about towing my little car. We have had many RVs over the years, but my little class B is the first motorhome I've ever had.

Sue, it's based on the weight of your tow. Different states have different laws on the weight... Your little car shouldn't need one...but don't take my guess as law. check it out... Some states begin at 1500# ...I believe Texas is above 4500#

I am NOT looking forward to one.. We had more than one Break Buddy...and none worked right. The company we bought it from agreed and kept getting another one and another... we ended up with the 3rd one and still didn't work properly... Was a hassle!!

Happy RVing!

Absolutely the Blue Ox! I've been using one for almost 6 years and love it. Easy to use, easy to hook and un-hook. As light as your Wrangler is I would suggest you spend a couple of extra bucks and get the aluminum one, your back will love you for it. I have the heavy one, but my Liberty is a little heavier and since I was going to Alaska wanted to make sure I had no problems with the bad roads there. Their customer service is the best in the business! Your Wrangler IS a 4X4 isn't it?

Gypsysuzy, you absolutely need some kind of auxillary brake on your tow car. If I read your post correctly you have a "B"? The brakes on your rv are barely big enough to stop you now, and if you add something behind you that is basically pushing you on any kind of a downhill slope, you aren't gonna be able to stop in a hurry. I forget what kind I have, I'll check on it when it gets warmer (It's in the garage) but I've also had it for 6 years and haven't had any trouble with it. I've got air brakes on Hope and she pretty much stops on a dime but there have been times I've been grateful I had the brake on the jeep. Vickie, something for you to think about, too. Doesn't have anything to do with the law, but has a lot to do with safety! As my DH used to say, "doesn't matter how fast you can go up a hill, but sure does matter how fast you come down!!" One panic stop and you'll be thanking the Great Spirit that you have it! LOL!

I knew this was where to ask the question. Looked at the link and found a dealer 14 miles from me. Will give them a call and get some more facts. The Wrangler is a 4 wheel drive. Probably won't be towing anything real soon but this summer we have some longer trips planned and the towed would come in handy.

Thanks, Sharon and Joella. My Honda Fit only weighs about 2500#, but I'm big on being safe. Since Joella hasn't had good luck with Brake Buddy, I'll be anxious to hear what brand you have, Sharon. Anyone else have any comments? It will at least be this summer and maybe not even then when I decide I want to tow. But I always like to have my facts straight before I talk to the "professionals."

Its grey with a rag top. Nothing fancy. Small backseat. Found it used but with one previous owner and 22,000 on a 2006. It will do what we want it to do. My camera is being worked on so as soon as I get it back I'll stick on a photo.
