OK - I don't have Joella's cute little lady at her desk with her panties poking out - but I DO have a question! I just saw an Old Navy ad and they open at 3AM on Friday morning! I'm stunned - my thought is who in their right mind would do Thanksgiving day with family, friends, and assorted loved ones and massive food, and THEN, get up at what - 2AM - to go to Old Navy? Gee, I see Walmart opens at 5 - and yes, I know there are people who have made their lists, who plot their mornings (OK - NIGHTS!) and head out into the dark. My question is, do I actually KNOW any of these people? Do you?

I personally never shop on Friday but my son does!!! I just shake my head...heard on the New York station that wall mart and some of the other stores like Old Navy can't think of the other are going to be open on Thanksgiving Day...Don't go for that at all we should have some days that families can be together and not have to go to work....Thanksgiving and Christmas should be among those

Count me as one of the ones who do the whole Black Friday thing. For years my three sisters, Mom and a neice would go out on that day and it would be so much fun. It wasn't so much as buying as just all being together. Mom always bought lunch for everyone. My two younger sisters usually did the 3 am thing. The rest of us would meet at 8:00am. This will be the second Thanksgiving now without Mom and our older sister has decided not to join in along with her daughter. So it is just three of us and we still have a wonderful time. Yes it is crowded but I love people watching. The three of us girls usually end up at some time or another in a 'pee your pants' laughing fit. I can't wait!

Those people are just plain kukoo in my opinion. I hate crowds and would not go near a store on Black Friday. I think most of the sales are over-rated. If it is a great item, they probably only have one or two and you are out of luck if you are not first in the door. I also think they inflate the "regular" price to make you think you are getting a great deal. They are not in it to loose money, period.

I'm not up to a Black Friday experience nowadays, but way back when . . .

A discount store back east decided to stay open in the middle of the night the whole week before Christmas. I was a working Mom with 3 pre and teenage boys and with all the cooking, cleaning, commuting, etc. I had little time to shop. I went to bed early and set my alarm for 2:00 a.m. I drove my sleigh to enjoy a peaceful, organized and relaxing shopping trip. The aisles were free from other frenzied shoppers and the shelves stocked (what else did they have to do at that hour?). I got ALL my Christmas shopping done in the wee hours of that morning and still got home in time to hide all the gifts before my boys woke up. It was worth it that time!

I couldn't, and wouldn't, be able to get up that early and be a functioning human being, and even if I did I wouldn't want to fight the crowds. However, I have a DIL that goes out with her friends every year and they have a great time. I also have neighbors who never miss the frenzy. However, he usually runs in to grab the deal while she circles the parking lots waiting for a parking spot. Not for me!

I always thought it'd be kind of fun to shop that day but I usually had to work. When I worked at Qwest the day after Thanksgiving was not a day off and since I don't have kids and don't travel for Thanksgiving I always worked - I figured the people that had to travel and the people with kids should have that day off.

This year I'm working at Petco - I don't suppose it'll be a big "Black Friday" kind of place to shop. I don't go to work till 11 so I could shop early, but I don't really need anything so guess I won't go.

I agree that'd it'd be a really fun "girls day out" though - that's a great idea !!

Enjoy the day, whatever you do !

I once went to a Wal-mart Black Friday sale....and it was wild and distressing! I didn't enjoy it, and the thing that really torqued my jaw was they had that TV still on sale for the very same price for the next few days, until they ran out. I could have shopped at a "sane hour", comfortably with no crowd!

I swore I 'd never go to one again...HOWEVER, Best Buy has a HP Laptop with Intel Celeron 900 processor, 2GB memory and a 160GB hard drive for only $197. Imagine what a neat gift for a kid for Christmas.

Best Buy’s Black Friday deals already featured a $249.99 Acer laptop, as well as extremely competitive Windows 7 netbook deals, including a $179.99 Compaq Netbook offering an Intel Atom Processor, 1GB memory and 160GB storage.

Now....if I needed a laptop.... I'd probably find myself trotting down to the nearest store with money in hand, and a big smile on my face!!!

Happy Black Friday shopping!

Joella

I always thought Black Friday was for contractors who did not work that day. Many years I did go shopping on the Friday after Thanksgiving and loved it and did quite a bit of Christmas shopping. Now, I just stay home and hope I won't have to go to the store. None of that 3AM or 5AM stuff for me.
