Okay okay, I know it has been forever since I posted but I have been busy, lol, travelling 10,000 miles in the past 7 months and dealing with one automotive crisis after another automotive crisis!! I am now in New Orleans for the next week, en route to Texas for a month and am taking stock :) and catching up.

I have a question I do not recall seeing discussed before. In the last three states, the CG's I stopped in had signs prominently displayed that warned that electric heaters were strictly taboo. Why is that, does anyone know? I thought maybe it was that they thought space heaters might spark propane leaks but, quite frankly, it makes very little sense to me to see those rules in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, rather than in the colder places I have been like the Atlantic provinces or the plains in early spring where my space heaters saved me lotsa dough on propane. And what about other appliances like electric blankets or even electric water heaters?

Any ideas and do you all follow that rule? Thanks in advance.

Hi ! Nice to hear from you again.

You have been busy - Wow !!!

I would guess the CG's didn't want you to use electric heaters because they use too much electricity. If the cost of the electric is figured into your site fee (by that I mean you aren't paying anything extra for electricity) the CG wouldn't make as much money if you used an electric heater. I've stayed in places that had a sign stating you had to pay an extra $1 or $2 if you used an electric heater. Seems excessive to me, but being the good girl I am I paid the extra if I used my heater.

If you really want to use an electric heater at a place like that, I'd just ask them and see if it's a safety issue or if it's a money issue, if it's money, maybe they'd take an extra dollar or two and let you use the heater.

I could be completely wrong - but that's what I think :D Stay warm !

Hi Jan! I'd totally agree with Trudy - but I'd also add that if a CG has an old electrical system they may feel that the draw of multiple heaters would create a brown out and damage someone's system, and they would end up being liable. So - 'no heaters' solves two issues.

Are you coming to our rally in Columbus while you are in Texas?

I don't think I have ever seen a sign about using electric heaters but I have seen places that wanted extra money for running air conditioners. I would ask why. They would probably say it is a safety issue but I bet it is a money issue for them. I have a heat strip in my air conditioner. Wonder what their take is on that.

I have used electric heaters for years without any problem but I know someone who had one catch on fire last year. It was the same brand I have used but it came from Wal-Mart. It is my opinion that some products that are sold at Wal-Mart are made especially for Wal-Mart and they cut the cost by cutting the quality.

You will pass near my house on the way to Texas but I am leaving Thrusday for the Texas GTG. If I make it back before you pass you are welcome to stay here. I have hookups and you can run your electric heater. lol

Uhhh, I dunno, gotta catch up. Gotta admit that everytime I try to book something with other ppl, my rig gets messed up but will check it out. My hubby is joining me for half the month also.

Thank you all for your replies. That all makes sense. The last place (that was HUGELY rule-driven and anal) seemed to be trying to find extra ways in general to ding ppl anyway. The guy wanted $5 extra per heater (not supplied!!) a night and would not take anything but cash if a discount was applied (like Passport America). Pretty soon I was paying the regualr rate anyway!

Live and learn I guess lol!

Jan so good to see you about

having never seen the signs mentioned don't know but I would think it is as Trudy said money issue as well as what Kerry said the wires not stronge enough so a safety issue as well

I think some campgrounds do that charge for this and that till it cost as much or more than the orginal amount...

Have heard of your issues....other than that has it been good? pictures taken? friends found? and just done what you pretty much expected?

Not many photos Sheila; that is not my thing really lol but lots of stories to share around a campfire somewhere sometime and have sure met some interesting ppl/seen some interesting places! Now I feel I can relate to many more of the discussions on the forum as I have been to some of the places lol! So far I have liked best the time I spent in Quebec City (on my own) and the Atlantic Canada caravan (45 days in the summer in 4 provinces with 20 other rigs) and the NYC rally (also with 18 other RV's but only for a week) and lastly 5 nights in Myrtle Beach, just before Ida earlier this month LOL with new Floridian friends I met on the caravan. Now I am hoping to add New Orleans to that list. I am ready for more summer!! I have had 4 months of fall!!

The hardest part of this trip for me (other than all the unexpected issues with the vehicle and getting stranded etc) is being alone. I have a high social need it seems at least for touring..:) Otherwise I tend to sit in my rig. Having no car makes it harder too of course...

Anyway, TY for asking :)

Jan, I know what you mean about touring alone. There are places I would stop if someone was with me but seldom stop if I'm alone. My friends and I use to go to New Orleans several times a year before Katrina and Rita but have not been since. Enjoy NO, it's a unique place.
