We made a 211 mile round trip ride today.  I needed a insultated drink mug---- and could find one no where!  I was told they were seasonal items.  So, knowing Buc-ees has them, we made a ride up to the store at Luling.

We took a circuitous scenic ride up through scenic country side.  We hadn't been on that route in a while, and enjoyed it very much.

Luling  (Popullation 5400) is in the middle of Watermelon growing country...Their water tower for the city is painted like a watermelon.

Luling, TX : Luling water tower painted like a watermelon.

Luling also hosts the annual Watermelon Thump in July of each year.

Truly a “Celebration of What Makes Texas Great”, Luling is known world-wide for its mouth watering bar-b-que, agriculture, Zedler Mill, the annual Watermelon Thump, and now Texas’ First inland Paddling Trail!

Watermelon seed spitting contest.

Luling is also an oil town.  This is a photo of one of the decorated oil jacks (grasshoppers)... I've not previously shown you.

Go team by mirsasha.

And another one.... Texas favorite sport..Friday night Football!

We dropped by the City Market to buy some BBQ to take home for meals.  Bought enough for two supper's worth!

I didn't know until just the other day that BBQ Stuffed Baked Potatoes have never been heard of in some states other than Texas.  You can stuff  the potato with sour cream, chopped green onions, shredded cheddar cheese AND diced BBQ and BBQ sauce.  Oh Yummy!!  This is a meal in one!!

I enjoyed my day's trip.

That sounds like a nice trip. When I was on my way back from San Antonio I thought about stopping at Buc-ees but thier parking lot was full and it was too early for lunch or I would have been looking for the BBQ place. A few years ago some Stuffed Potato places opened up around here but I don't think they made it. They had a bunch of different toppings like Etouffee, BBQ, Philly Cheese Steak, Broccoli and Cheese, etc. My DH liked them but I like butter on my potatoes, lots of butter. lol

Glad you had such a great ride. Did you ever get your insulated mug??? Love the pictures and I love baked potatoes, actually potatoes in just about any form except salad. Do not like mayonaise. Sometimes I stuff a baked potato with all kinds of veggies and cheese and call it supper. Yum

Yes, I did get my insulated mug....in fact, since they've been so hard to locate--- I bought TWO....

I am not going to tell anyone....but I found my "lost" one!!! I don't know how it got there, since can't even reach up there..and don't use it...but it was on the top shelf of our kitchen cabinets.. bad thing is---- although I can't REACH that high---- I can darned well SEE that high, and never saw it!!!! In a whole month's time!! I have torn house, trailer, car and truck asunder looking for it! Talk about the proverbial SNAKE!!! :)

I had warped it in the dishwasher anyway.... it leaked on me.... and the bottom was pooched out from heat, and it wobbled around on the table top....so needed to be replaced. Nothing worse than cold beer dripping down your chin and chest!!! Such a waste of good beer!! :)

These things generally last forever and day....and since I bought two....I'll probably outlive both of them..

Enjoy your day, all y'all!

Happy RVing!

Joella

Martha, it seems to me Buc-kees parking lot is always full... Love's is right across the I-10 Freeway and they don't have near the customers.
Vicki, I've not had Rudy's stuffed baked potato, but their BBQ is good --- though not as awesome as City Market in Luling. CM wins awards for best in state.
Sheila, you are like me-- you like "all of the above" on your baked potato.
Darcie....I think you should join us in Columbus for the Forum Rally, Nov 20/21st. It's not that far from your home--- and you deserve a couple of nights out with the girls! Besides, we all want to meet and get to know you!! Would be a hoot to have you there!
Sharon.... yes it was a great day out. We bought our food and brought it home..and that was good. That means two meals I don't need to cook. Just slice some fresh veggies with them...thaw out some cake or pie for Milt and we are GOOD to go!!
Happy RVing, all
Joella

The mere mention of Rudy's BBQ makes my mouth water, however, I must warn Rudy's fans that not all Rudy's are created equal. We have one of the spinoff Rudy's in McAllen and in my estimation it just isn't the same as the original one outside of San Antonio.
