Help, I got Direct TV installed a couple of days ago and I have been wondering if I have been transported to the twilight zone. The guy took out my bottom drawer of my clothing area and ran the cable line under the RV, in through the drawer space, across my carpeting and up the corner into my TV cabinet. Now I wouldn't be able to move my RV without removing all of this wiring. Am I the only person that thinks "This can't be the right way to install direct tv?" Anyone else have direct tv installed????? OB44

I have Direct TV but I either use the dome on top of my RV or if I had a brain I could use my portable dish by running a cable through the window or through the slide. (I don't know how to use the portable dish yet - I do need to learn how to use it !! HA !! ) The way yours was installed doesn't sound right to me ! Like you said, you need to be able to move your RV ! I'd call the company back and tell them what's wrong with the installation and have them come back and fix it - maybe they didn't know you intended to move your RV. There has to be another way for them to install your Direct TV - make them come back. Good luck :D Trudy, Molly & Murphy 37' Montana 5th wheel - "be the kind of person your dog thinks you are"

That's hilarious! Did he bring you an extension cord for really long trips? :) I have direct TV through a dome on my roof which is an in-motion satellite dish. Did he install a dish anywhere on your rv? A cable comes down thru the roof from the dish to the tv where I plug in a direct tv receiver just like you have in your house. So I get the same channels in my rv that I get in my house no matter where I am. Pretty cool! I definitely would get another technician to come out & re-do the job! Good luck! Liz & Jack(4 legged)

Hi Trudy, I am hoping not to have to move my RV. I am renting a monthly spot at this CG. I have only been here a week. I have been told by the workers that placed me here that I may have to move off of this spot for Halloween weekend. I talked to the owner about a month ago personally and she seemed like a nice person. Then I was calling back every week to verify that they would have a space for me. I even asked if I could come over and put a deposit on Lot #35. I was told that would not be necessary. I could have Lot#35. When I came to pay my monthly fee they said I could not have 35 because someone had reserved it for Halloween weekend. So this guy that works here offered me three other spots to choose from. Lot #40, which is where I am is nice. Its not lot #35 and I still have to confront the owner over this. This guy says he's going to clear by week the lot that I am on so I can stay here. I don't know how I get into these predicaments but I sure do. Now I let these characters install the direct tv in a most aggravating way to my thinking. He was thinking about puting it through the window but how would you have closed your window??

I don't have a dome on my roof. I have a 1997 Class C. I was so unhappy this cg did not have cable tv I could have spit. Its a new aggravation everywhere I go. I was hoping to stay at this campground for a while. Its in Mississippi but its as close to Louisiana as I want to be. OB44

Through the window isn't the best way to do things but when "they" wired in my dome they bypassed the outside cable hook up deal ... Do you have a cable hookup outside of your rig ? When I put the cable through the window I can just about completely get the window closed - I got some of that blue painters tape and taped over the opening - so far it's not a problem. I think you can push it thru the rubber seal on the slide. Either way - I'd call the Direct TV people and tell them you need to be able to move your RV and they'll have to figure out a way to install the cable so you could move it if need be. You may only move it once a year but you still should be able to move it when you want/need to .. Good luck !!! p.s. - nice to hear from you again :D Where are you ?? Where is your dish, on your RV or on a pole? I sure wouldn't let a Direct TV tech drill a hole in my floor. RV's have plumbing, hoses and wiring running all over. He could have made a big mess for you. If the dish is not on your RV you need an outside connection where you can unscrew the cable if you need to. I would talk to an RV shop and see what they suggest. Most motorhomes have a cable connection already but I don't think you can use it for satellite for some reason.

Yes Trudy, I have a cable connection on the side of my RV. He said he couldn't go through that. I am at Mimosa Landing RV Campground. Its on a 35ft bluff on the Pearl River. Its really nice. Check out their website. Its about 15 miles from my sister's house. The CG is in Columbia, Ms. The owner is from Slidell, La. and she asked me if I wanted to work for my rent when I first met her. I said I would think about it but that I had worked 45 years and I wanted a few years off to recuperate. She plans to have Halloween festivities for two weekends for Halloween. The CG is mostly empty, but they keep saying its going to be full. I'll have to see this to believe it. OB44

Hi Martha, He didn't drill any holes. He went in over the rear wheels up into my wardrobe platform. He took out the bottom drawer and somehow the platform bottom was not stapled or the nails came loose. He could see daylight so he ran the cable up through there and the wiring is hanging out of the bottom of the drawer opening. Its not any bother and I can bear anything to be able to watch TV. I just won't be able to move this RV without taking the TV connection out, tearing out all of the staples he put in and pushing the wiring out through the wheel. Yes he had to run a long, long wire to the dish that is on a tripod out by the road. Did you have any damage from the hurricanes? OB44

I'm glad to hear that he didn't do any drilling. We have Direct TV and it's a different yoyo everytime we have to have one come out. The last one came out to change the dish so we could get HD channels but left off a connection that he should have put. I was on the phone with them for 2 hours while they tried to figure out why we weren't getting HD channels.
There is a short(about 8 inches) flat cable connection made to put through a window. If you have to remove the cable he ran you could try one of those. I think Camping World probably has it or you might can find it at a Radio Shack.
Our property flooded for Ike but after Rita we put our house on a hill of dirt so we didn't get water in our new house. We just had mud and trash in our barns and old house. I sure hope we don't have to go through this every few years.
