that space under the desk that I just thought a chair would go under because of course I woould use the desk for what is intended not to house the printer and a two drawer thing so I use a tv tray for the lap top since the chair won't be under the desk as one would think it should be it has become a storage area. DH suggested that we put a 'curtain' to hide such stuff I have this immediate visual and 'curtain' doesn't work. But I need to come up with something that does all though I bought time cause I suggested a shelf be installed that way it would stay neater. I can see the think they are called blinds that you can slide to one side straight about 2-4 inches wide. but the ones I see in the stores are way too long. Any ideas? sheila

Sheila, rather than a "gathered curtain" why not make a straight fabric "shade"..attached to the desk with Velcro. You could use fabric that is bland in color. and wouldn't draw the eye.. one near the color of the desk wood. When you need under there, simply lift the whole curtain for access?
I DO however, have a marvelous suggestion for the laptop. Rather than use it on a table, settle back in your favorite "Queenie chair"...with feet propped up and use the laptop IN your lap? You cannot imagine the comfort, convenience and fit. I no longer get any neck cramps from sitting at a desk. I love it and me, my laptop and my Queenie chair are a fixture in our home and trailer as well.
Have a happy Tuesday!

Hey, Joella, what's a Queenie chair? Just a favorite chair? I agree that a laptop in a lap is easier than a desk.
Has anyone ever used one of those big pillows that looks like it has arms on it? I was wondering if they are comfortable or not. Thought I might be able to use one in Ms"B"Haven while I'm watching TV. Margie

A fabric curtain certainly would work. And, a shelf can be mounted under there. However, why not use your desk as a desk. Simply cut the legs off a chair to make it work. A wood or even steel folding chair can be easily altered. "Phae's 5" on the road -- Paul, Shell, pets (Morgan & Emmy) in our 2002 Tiffin Phaeton. It's my word for my little nest of a place in the den. have my comfy chair and an ottoman.. which is where I lay the laptop when I'm not using it. got my lamp to the right and end table to the left to hold TV remote, guide and always present cup of coffee or cold Crystal Light to drink.
I have this "nest" here at home and one in the trailer as well! Ah....kick back and be comfy! :)
I've not used one of those comfy looking reading pillows...BUT if you bought one from someone that could be returned if it didn't work out, would be worth a try!! We just gotta be comfortable! Grin.
Enjoy the day!

Margie - I tried those "sit-up" pillows with arms twice. I thought it would be great for sitting in bed and wathcing t.v. Somehow they weren't comfortable - too straight up or something. I don't know; I just didn't like them. They are also awfully large to put someplace when you aren't using them.
Yup! Using the laptop on your lap is much easier (what a radical idea - actually using a LAPtop on your lap!). Especially if you have a footstool or something to prop your feet on.
As for the desk idea: Pier 1 has woven willow or rush (or whatever) mats that are about the right size (about 3'x4'). They come rolled up. Maybe other stores have them, but when I was searching for something these turned out to be perfect and look very high quality. I bought two for under my desk at home - not to make a curtain, but to cover up a hole in the wall behind the desk. Anyway, they are quite cheap, sort of semi-rigid, and you might be able to carefully cut them to size. Velcro strips along the edge could affix it to your desk. If there's a small overhang, stick it behind the lip.

Sheila, those verticles can be cut to size. Back in Colorado I had high skinny windows and I put verticles on them and cut them to fit, so they looked like shorty verticles, I was quite happy with them. I just used a straight edge and a utility knife. Ava, Bandit, Gracie and Xie from the desert of arizona, where the wind blows and the tumbleweeds roll 29' Cameo Carriagelite (2001) but NO TRUCK!

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. Isn't this just a great Forum to get ideas from everyone? Snowball got a lot of neat ideas for her desk problem.
So I guess, Joella, that you are the Queen Bee at home and in your RV??? I like your idea of buying that pillow with the arms and just returning it if it isn't what I'm looking for. Margie

Sheila, I use my laptop on my lap in my chair like Joella does. I also use my cordless mouse. I have a small piece of cardboard that I put over my keys. When I need to type. I just move my mouse to the chair arm and type. When finished the mouse goes back onto the computer.
