Milt was in the spa-room, walking on the treadmill and he heard Kandi giving her "Help, Help! I have a snake" bark. She was right outside the sliding patio doors, which was open. It was a baby copperhead about 8" long. He killed it.
We need to begin closing that door. We leave it open so we can just let the girls in and out the door from den to spa-room and they can then go on out. Dumb move!! Snakes can also come in. We'll just have to walk 14' further and open two doors, don't you think?
Milt went on a snake hunt in the area, fearful more are out there. Usually, as we discussed not long ago-where one snake is....there is another!
Oh Yuck!
These little girls are good snake dogs. They have found several. Kandi was bit when she was about five months old. Now she knows they are not the least bit friendly.
The last two we had were good for poking their noses on them and getting bit a couple-three times a season. Cost us right at a hundred bucks each time!!
We'll be careful!

Yikes !!! That's scary !!!! I'm glad she knows not to get too close - The do have doggy doors for sliding glass doors, that may be a solution for you - I don't know if a snake could get in thru a doggy door or not ?! I know they have doggy doors that have a sensor on them and the dog wears the other one on their collar, the door only opens for the dog. Maybe you could get a remote opener and just push a button from across the room :D Good job Kandi !! Trudy, Molly & Murphy "Be the kind of person your dog thinks you are"

Joella -
I'm so glad you didn't tell me about your snakes BEFORE I visited or I might not have met you! And I was so glad to meet you and Milt. You could rent that Kandi out, she's that good! Think I'd try to find a doggie door for the slider that the dogs have to step up through. Maybe that would deter the snakes from making themselves at home? Would a snake step up and push open a doggie door?
Perhaps a pet mongoose in the yard?

Yikes! I lived where there were poisonous snakes, in the mid-west, but never did they come near the house. We mostly had copperheads, cotton mouths and blue racers. Here in the NW we have garter snakes, mostly because of all the wetlands that have copious numbers frogs for them to feed on. My dog loves to walk in the wetlands behind our sub'd. park and I generally get 4-5 snakes gliding across my toes each morning. I've never had a fear of snakes. Now scorpions/tarantulas or any arachnid??? NO WAY! Lenora & Choco

Sometimes, the only right answer is silence...which in and of itself speaks a thousand words.

Ah,Evie....My mama didn't raise no dummy! No way I was going to tell you we harbor snakes. I WANTED to meet both you and Sharon!! And believe me, the pleasure was all mine. Loved having y'all here!
What a nice visit!
Trudy, I didn't know they had doggy doors for sliding glass doors, have to check into that. The spa room is ALL glass. We could put a doggy door on one that is not used for our entrance/exit and therefore not get much "sliding stress". Thanks, I'll check that out.
If not... the answer is that pet mongoose! Grin..

What a good girl that Kandi is!! Not sure I ever want to camp in Texas! I don't mind non-poisonous snakes tho.
