[font=Century Gothic] I love small-town 4th of July Celebrations. Here are some pictures from this morning's parade in Friday Harbor.
The local Captains of Pick-Up (trash collectors) had a drill team routine, complete with their "grabbers."

The theme was "Animals on Parade" and I loved these goats in disguise.

At the national park on the island they do re-enactments of the so-called "Pig War" of the 1860s. I include this photo to point out Darlene, the woman in the middle with the guide dog. She is a ranger at the park and is irrepressible. This is the last parade for her dog, Fayette, who will be retired this month.

I just LOVED these costumes by the beachwatcher group.

I was confused when I saw the parade routed into a parking lot -- then tears came to my eyes when I saw that the floats, bands and other acts stopped and performed for honored audience members -- residents of the town's convalescent home, who watched appreciatively with their wheelchairs and walkers.
THAT'S how you know a town has heart. Happy 4th of July everyone!

Great pictures. Small town celebrations are the best :D I love that they went over to the care home so the people there could see the parade - how sweet !! Thanks for sharing. "If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else." Yogi Berra

Janice, Thanks for sharing your parade. I too miss the 'small town USA' 4th of July parade from back when I was growing up. Seemed like we knew just about everyone in it. lol Great memories. Lenora & Choco

How neat are these pictures. It rained the last few days for us, so we didn't go anywhere we couldn't escape quickly. :( But last night we did have a great party at my cousins house, complete with a spectacular fireworks show. Tonight we've got another family party, so at least the entire weekend wasn't a 'wash'. I got some awesome pics of the kiddo, will post later, as I'm on my crappy laptop right now. -kywildcat243 off to see the lizard PS, pleze xcuse my spellin. I'm from Kentucky. :P

Great Pictures!! Our small town had their usuall big event at the recreation center which is right over the hill from my house. At 9 PM we always have a front row seat for fireworks. This year they were especially good. We set off a few to add to the sparkle. The main performer at the event took his helicopter up just before the fireworks and flew circles around watching from the sky, that was neat.
We had a wonderful 4th, hope all of you did too.

Wow, leading any goat is hard enough, but I've heard the "zebra" breed are especially challenging! Loved the parade, thanks for sharing, Diana "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." T.S. Eliot
