Okay... We're less than two weeks away from our month on the road. We're going to try to boondock as much as possible to (Arizona) and from here (Washington).... and back, of course!!
What would you consider your "best" boondocking tips?? We'll be parking in some Wal*Mart parking lots, I know (and probably spending a lot of ca$h there as well! LOL!). How about the desert?
Thanks in adavance! ... and have a wonderful weekend! We're headed out for Port Townsend to deliver a bunk bed to our grandkids as they just moved into a much smaller home. Carol Kay "Every day is a winding road..."

CarolKay, here is an interesting website for you on boondocking in the desert near Yuma, AZ..
http://www.seeya-downtheroad.com/2004/Feb2004.html
You may almost have the desert to yourself now..it's hot as Hades out there!!!
My tip is to have a small inverter...large enough to run a fan and for us,a TV all night.
Have a wonderful trip...don't forget to check in..We'd love to get updates.
Happy Travelin' :-) Remember: You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing.

If you've got the money and the time I'd go to Solar Bill's in Quartzsite and get solar panels & inverter but right now not sure you want to be out in the desert because it will be hot so you might want to reconsider going to a park with hookups or just stay in cooler areas. Thanks Joella for the Boondocking areas you are making me home sick to go back to AZ!
Best boondocking tips from me 1)use basins in your sinks so you don't waste water use more paper plates that you can burn or throw away
2)When you decide to take a shower put a large pan in the shower and fill it till you get the temp you like, shut the water off.....now you have clean water to wash your dishes later. Do a military bath...get wet, turn off shower...soap up..turn water back on and rinse off. You waste less water this way. I'll throw dish water out on the plants but never NEVER dump your gray or black water into the Desert it is prohibited.
Some time get the solar panels & inverter....they are costly but well worth the bucks. I love to Boondock out in Quartzsite and I tip my panels to the Sun and keep my batterys charged all the time so I don't have to charge them using my noisy generator.
Note to all....Wal*Mart is not camping....please do not get out your lawn chairs or Bar-B-que or put down your jacks. Be kind enough to leave the area cleaner than you found it. So many people abuse this and we are getting kicked out of alot of Wal*Marts. They should be for a 1 night stay only and stay on the outskirts of the parking lot away from the store.
I love Port Townsend! But hated the weather there on New Years....Poured rain BIG time.
Above all enjoy the journey....drink in the views! Seeya down the road, Jenny & Dan FT in 40 ft Alfa Seeya tow/w a Jeep Cherokee www.Sheppardsjourneys.blogspot.com kitties: Biff, Felix & Sasha Mio

Thanks for the link.... my brother and sister-in-love live in Why! But they "summer" in Show Low (which is in the mountains... much cooler). So they will still be in Show Low when we go. We've camped in Why before. One time in Dec. and the other in Apr. Beautiful there!!!! Warm days, yet cold nights... our son slept in a tent and about froze!) PT (my brother... stands for "Pony Tail John" as there were several Johns in the park, but only one with a pony tail! ) and SIL are fulltimers... but they have a park model in Show Low and they tell me they have a parking spot big enough for the motorhome... we'll see!!! Sure hope so!
Thanks for all the tips! We hope to make good time. We probably will sleep a few hours at a couple Wal*Marts then hit the road for the day. I know when we go to our local Wal*Mart... I'll see RV's parked and I'll wonder if they are spending the night. Some, though, are obvious as they put out their slide-outs, dish antennaes, jacks and awnings!! Oh, my! I like to be as inconspicuous as possible... Good tip about leaving better than coming (besides our $$ which I'm always good at leaving behind... they make more off of me than should be legal!!) Maybe I'll go out and pick up trash or something... if I'm not immediately asleep!
Yes, I feel fortunate to be able to go for that length of time. Big Dog has a "use it or lose it" thing going on his vacation time. But when he comes home, he has to look for a new position in the company as the technology he supports is going away... :( In the past, when faced with this type of situation, we would have just held off on vacationing in case he changed companies. Then, he would just get compensated for his vacation time..(more $$). But he's REALLY wanting to get away. We hardly ever go anywhere... so it's really exciting for us!
Well, sorry this is so long. For those who waded through it... thanks! Carol Kay "Every day is a winding road..."

Jenny...
I was camping at Fort Worden (Port Townsend) over Easter and thought I was going to be blown and washed out to sea. LOTS of horizontal rain and cooooooooooold. Lived there for a longggggggggg time... shoulda been use to it. But was glad to get back to my calm neck of the woods. Yesterday, however, was the most beautiful day in PT!! Pat writes: Funny you should say that. When we were having our really hot spell in SoCal a few weeks ago, it was cooler in Phoenix than it was in the Riverside area of the Calif. Inland Empire. Plus, we had to deal with awful humidity. I know, I know you all from the midwest and east coast don't want to hear anybody whine about humidity.

Fort Worden is a beautiful campground but yep, very cold, Wet...and WINDY! Wind was slamming us so hard we had to bring in the bedroom slide! From there all down the Very Wet Oregon coast we developed a leak and got a nasty lrg stain on the ceiling of the bedroom. ( have gotten the leak fixed but won't know if it worked till it rains again going down the road)
CarolKay you sound like you're going to have fun , keep us posted where you are.
We have the perfect campsite in Monroe WA at the Thousand Trails Park.

Welp... Jenny, you'll have to look us up when your here (in Monroe)! Not sure where the Thousand Trails Park is, though.
Took the motorhome over to a shop in Snohomish today to have the A/C looked at. The dash air stopped working... not a "good thing" when you're headed for AZ in Aug., huh? Carol Kay "Every day is a winding road..."

Pat,I understand what you are saying.. Here in Texas, we've had cooler temps than those in the midwest..and Colorado... and other mountainous states.. Has been unreal! Just a weird weather from January on..No month was as it was supposed to be!!
Jenny, good you could tell them where to get solar power equipment..I know NOTHING about any of that!!
Whoa! Carol Kay...good you got the motorhome into a shop to check out the air... You'll surely need that working to it's peak!!
Happy RVing All!!! :-)
