Welcome Lilliecat, I am not a fulltimer, but I know there are some very knowledgable gals on here who can probably answer any questions you might have. I would suggest you tell them what size unit you have, then come up with a list of questions. These questions can be about how to get mail, how to drive the MH, etc. They will be able to give you the answere you want. Congratulations on doing what I want to do in about 3 years when DH retires. Sincerely yours, Marslet

Happy camping, Marslet

Hi Lillicat!! Welcome to our Forum. I don't think you are crazy...you are following your dream, and there are many others out there just like you.
You are fortunate in that you are a Nurse, and you can both travel and do Contract Nursing if you so desire and wish to..Many work and travel. Some because they need to supplement their income, some as a means of getting out around people...and they enjoy their profession.
Starting as a raw beginner, my suggestion is to do some Google Searches on what you wish to learn, such as the hoses, what to put in the tanks, driving..the things you mentioned on here..Read and Study! There is a wealth of information out there just waiting for you!!
Get some basics learned and come back here to ask any specific questions.
Again, Welcome and hurry back, ya hear?? :) Joella

Welcome Lilliecat, If you can go to a driving school, Dick Reed has a great teamdriving school. Did your MH come with the manuals? It should tell you how big your tanks are. Wal-Mart is pretty good about getting RV supplies, I know you can get the sewer hoses, toilet paper there. There is the chemicals to put in the black tank....Only use formaldehyde free products. Get online to Camping World and have stuff sent to you. Sometimes there will be a back bumper with the hoses in it already. Having two-10 ft hoses with a hose coupler is great in case you have a short area to put your sewer hose in or you have a long distance. Some campgrounds require a adapter for sticking the sewer hose in the ground and making it so it fits tight...hense no smell or leaks to the ground. Ask all the questions, we're here as your support team! Hey I was in your shoes at one time and now I have been on the road for 5 yrs now and still learning!!Camping World Please check out my website I have alot of books that are available online that my friends have written about RVing. I am also on Staff with the Life On WheelsLife On Wheels People thought I was crazy in the beginning but most of them now are in awe of our travels and love to hear about my travels and follow along with us on our website. Hi Lilliecat, I was in exactly your shoes about 5 mos ago. I had bought an RV, was totally inhibited by all the systems - electrical, plumbing, engine, batteries. Yikes. The plumbing seemed the most mysterious to me. Was fortunate to have a campground owner take me through the ropes and within a few days, I had that system down pat. Then the electrical - really didn't know I even had fuses(just like circuit breakers in your house) on of the RV women showed me that little item and now I feel OK with handling that. So little by little you add to your knowledge base about RVs. That's part of the fun of it for me. Good luck to you - just ask all the questions you can think of and very soon you will be feeling more confident. I live in West Palm Beach Fl. Know what you mean about RV stores or services. There is a place called Land Yachts in Jupiter(far for you I know) that does a good job. They may be able to direct you to a place nearby where you could go in and get some info. Good luck and welcome aboard. Marysdream Its all good!!!!!

Ha! There's no "guys" around to do my holding tanks! But the best part is when at a dump station and you are finishing up and ready to rinse things out and put them away, and the "faucet" for the water hose is one of those kinds that you have to HOLD THE HANDLE UP or it automatically shuts off! Well, that is fine and good if you have someone helping you but a little hard to hold the handle up with one hand, hold the sewer hose with the other and hold the end of the water hose with WHAT? I don't have 3 hands thank you!
Ahhh, it is all good!

Hi forum gals. In reading these latest posts, I realized I have a question, too. I have only camped at campgrounds so far and have not had to empty tanks at a station. I have a looooong sewer hose and I just wondered if I shouldn't get a shorter one just for that purpose, if so, what is a practical length? Wish now I'd have gotten the 2 10 foot ones with a coupler. I can imagine whipping out this 25 foot thing at a dumping station will take all day. Also any suggestions to how to store the shorter one if I get it? (My long one fits nicely in the bumper opening). Any of you gals out there with a similar set-up?
Another question: Will folks get mad when I spend a long time at a dumping station? I'm still so new and go slowly as to not spill or contaminate. Any suggestions as to how to get the job done quickly?
Paulette, that does present a problem and I will be travelling solo also. Is there something you can use to wedge or prop that handle up? Just wondering since I've never seen the thing.

If it were me...I'd wait and see if I ever ran into the need for a shorter sewer hose. If so, you can buy a length of PVC and two caps for it,to store the extra hose in. I have seen Lowe's and Home Depots that will cut the length you need. Snucker the hose down as short as it will go...(or measure the box it came in) and make that PVC pipe as short as possible. Then, can store in a storage bay...OR some mount theirs underneath the body of the mh.. If you can do without is best...saving that storage space, don't ya know?
Most people are very nice! Not many will become agitated if you take too long at the dump...IF they do..they are the type who would complain about being hung with a NEW rope...so fluff them off..and don't worry about it!! :)
Happy RVing all!!
