Ewwwwwwwwwwwww! I hate snakes also! No matter what kind and how nice your husband is/was about moving it - I would have wanted it dead!
I used to live at the bottom of a bluff next to the Mississippi River - loved it there - we had a little motel. I was checking the rooms one morning, stepped outside - and felt something crossing my foot - looked down and it was a rattler. Luckily my foot was simply in the way and it kept going. I went and grabbed a broom and at least managed to toss it down off the motel grounds. But I was shaking and quaking for HOURS.
My sister and brother-in-law bought the property and motel from me some years later. They had a bird build a nest on their porch and the babies were born. They were watching them grow up. One morning my sister couldn't see the babies and went to get closer - and a snake was up the porch railing, EATING them. She screamed, it didn't phase the snake - and last baby was gone in that one second. Her husband came running and killed that snake. Poor birds - Mom bird was watching and couldn't do anything to protect her babies. My sis was so upset. At least that snake won't be around to do it to another family.
Yep, I know, it's the way things work in nature - but I HATE snakes.
