So, I went out to get the mail, and I notice that my entire yard is flooded. I look around and see water just bubbling up out of the ground...call my husband no answer, call my dad no answer... remember there is a Well shut off valve in my yard, go to open it up, so I can stick my hand in and turn it off... Jump back and Scream almost falling on my butt! This is what I saw...
Pretty sure it is a bull snake, but still gives me the heeby jeebies... I finally composed myself, and ran in to get the camera, proof for my husband when he asks how come I didn't turn off the well!

If my day had started like that -- it would have been my last day. :8o:
I hate snakes --even looking at the picture gave me the willies.

Oh yecht!! I hate those things and all other creepy, crawly things..But, when I find them, I HAVE to kill them..Only GOOD snake is a DEAD snake!!!

My husband came to the rescue finally! He came home and he tells me "it's just a Checkered Garter Snake" like I care what kinda snake it is...but it puts off a nasty odor when you try and pick them up!
Now he has the tractor out digging up the yard, hopefully it's just a pipe...it is a 102 degrees today, so I'd like to have the water back on ASAP!

That is a seriously shitty problem. I hope it's simple.. I know what you mean by heat I just went to check the mail and it actually took me a minute to catch my breath it's so hot...HATE IT

Oh gosh, I think "I'D" have been putting off a nasty odor long before trying to pick it up! Who cares if they're poisonous or not? Too many species to keep track of here in the south!

I agree with Jill, I would have been putting out my own nasty odor if I had put my hand down in there to turn the water off.
We have something like that at the camp, but we use a long t bar that has a special end on it to slip over the lever to turn it on and off. Don't think I would do it if I had to put my hand down in that dark hole. Yuck spiders and who knows what else. :8o:

Oh I hate snakes to. And the joy of living up here in the Pan Handle of Idaho is there is nothing poisonous. But that doesn't discount the Grizzlies, moose, wolves and Mt. lions.... Yes that would have scared the "po.p" out of me to. Sure glad it wasn't anything that could harm you, besides a heart attack or a broken hip trying to get away from it.. Geez the joys of nature.
