Did I understand that some of you have purchased this pass at State Parks and it reduced the fee charged for camping? I have been reading up on the pass this morning and it indicates that it only covers the entry fee? If some of you can tell me about the pass and exactly what to ask for I would appreciate it.

I'm not sure about the pass but I wanted to know if you got my p.m. If you didn't, check your inbox. When I'm on the road, that is the only way I can send messages. I got to find time to call my provider when I get home and work out the e-mail thing.

Here's the website for all info on the Passports.
http://www.nps.gov/fees_passes.htm
We have the Golden Age Passport, which is a lifetime admission and discount. The pass is valid at National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Corps of Engineers, Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service, and Tennessee Valley Authority sites with admission fees. The Golden Age Passport admits the pass owner and any accompanying passengers in a private vehicle if a park has a per vehicle entrance fee. Where a per person entrance fee is charged, the Golden Age Passport admits the pass owner, spouse, and children.
The Golden Age Passport also provides a 50% discount on federal use fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, parking, boat launching, and specialized interpretive services. In some cases where use fees are charged, only the pass owner will be given the 50% price reduction. The Passport is nontransferable and does NOT cover or reduce special recreation permit fees or fees charged by concessioners.
The other Passports are also covered in that website..
Happy Camping!!

The Golden Age Passport is one of the few good things about growing old! And definitely the BEST thing our government does for us!
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all!

Anyone 62 or over who travels should have a Golden Age Pass. It not only gets you into NPs and NRAs free, and 50% discounts at NP, COE, & NF campgrounds, state parks often also honor them for a discount. They cost a one-time $10.00 and can be purchased at any NP. I'm not old enough for one, but enjoyed my sister-in-law's discount while traveling with her. I recently qualified for SS disability (one of the good outcomes of having cancer, and that is what is allowing me to retire early) so qualify and just got a "Golden Access Pass." That pass gets you the same discounts, but costs nothing! So ladies, if you qualify for either one, check it out.

Geeeee!! I feel like a young whipper-snapper on here cause I'm not old enough for a Golden Passport either!! I got to wait a couple years. When I do get old enough to have one, I sure plan on getting one. For now I'll just have to settle for the the National Parks pass which I do plan to purchase when I head north in August.

hmmmmm...I'm too young and too healthy. BUT, I am not complaining. However, it is good information for the time when either or both of those situations change.

So a park has to be a National Park, not just a state park? How do you determine if a park is a national park?
This was an age revealing question.
Thanks for the help and information.

My Sister went to get a National Park Pass and they asked her if she wanted the Golden Age Pass. Poor Chris was almost in tears because she was only 45 and didn't think she looked that old. OOPS!!
We get ours in 6 yrs...we are still in our 50's.
I am finding out that yes getting older does have a bonus because I'll get discounts in Restaurants, Casinos, Parks etc... :)

Hey Ladies thanks for all of the great info on the Golden Age Passport, I have been wondering about that myself. Even though I am in Paulette's catagory....to young and still feeling okay....
Also thanks for posting the site Joella, as I'm printing this info off now and will bookmark the site for future reference. And Fernie thought you were still a youngster?? That always makes my day.
