I waited a l-o-n-g time for the prices to go down with Direcway( now Hughes) and think I got it at a good price compaired to alot of other people I know who paid alot more. The Hughes is on a tripod and by taking the laptop outside DH was able to get it in by himself thanks to our wireless router. Here in WA you have to dodge alot of trees and remember your fav sites and where you put the dish before. I have alot of people coming over to my site and seeing where I am pointing to.
Yeah, I'm roughing it if I don't have satellite ...but I'd rather pay the price than hearing the phone ring all the time hearing " Where are you now?" I just say "check my website" now. :p

Beth, do talk to someone locally...I can't imagine that you can't find SOMEONE to install for you.
You could contact John Veach..I bet he still knows people who do this work, as he used to. He, as well as Jenny HAVE no homes to install in first..There is a way...and you are an intelligent gal...you'll find it!!
I am just posting to be encouraging and urging you to keep on dreaming!!! :)

I'm a little nervous about this - because even John has written - that Direcway could - at any time - pull the plug on being able to connect other than from the home location - as the rest is not purchased OR sanctioned by them. Which is why a few people I've talked to said, yes, they could do it for me, but they would make no guarantees that I could get it - AND I would still have to originally have the Direcway installed at my home (of which I have none). So - still looking.
Don't these people (Hughes, etc) know how large a business we (the rv world) could give them?

I agree Beth, they are throwing away lots of money by not accepting RVing Customers. However, I think in time it will be common practice and in the meantime, will take pioneers like John, Jenny, and you to forge the way. I'll be right in there one of these days when I can justify two expensive antennae, one for home and one for RV. I have had the Satellite TV service in my RV for many years, when it wasn't "Legal". I feel I'm NOT stealing it...I pay for my service.
I know it's a big decision. Bless your heart!!

DH says the chance they are going to jerk us off Hughes is very slim. You do have to have a guy come out to you to teach you how to set it up and it can be done alone. If you know how to set up a portable satellite dish for DirectTV or Dish you can do it.
There are too many people out there on the road with these dishes. DH and I can see on data Storm that there are ALOT all over the U.S.
I have to correct Jomilt though...I do have a home but the only difference is mine has wheels under it ;p

Jenny,
You have a home address where you are at the property in AZ - I have no home address to get it to - which they REQUIRE. The address I use is a friends in AL - and that would work - if I wanted to drive to AL to get it set-up originally - but I don't intend to be back in AL before Oct - maybe Nov.
So - back to the drawing board for me! If they would do it for full-timers and admit it - then I could get a set-up for the rv - where ever I happen to be parked at the time.

Ah ha! Jenny....ya got me!!! I stand corrected!!! Grin!!
First mistake I EVER made and had to do it publicly...Ha!
So, Beth I gather they won't let you use the physical address of the park you are in as your home? Surely there has to be some way around this!!! Jenny, you have to correct that Satellite installer for Beth too! :)
Night all!

Bethers, oddly enough we were on our friends lot in Yuma. We hadn't even looked for our own lot yet. Our drivers licence, motorhome and car have a Richland Wa Address. Our direct TV bill goes to my Mom's House in Bellevue WA and our mailing address is Livingston TX! You figure? So they must not be fussy....I'd talk to someone else. Glen Simpson is a Full-timer so he understood us.
You're off the hook Joella...giggle. Someday I am going to get to TX to have a campout with you I know it would be a riot!

Behters, you know you have to do what you can afford.. we all can give great suggestions but don't know what's in your pocket ! I have a lot of confidence in that you'll do what's best for you !
For me because being by myself.. I just went the easiest route..for others that are healthier and stronger and can do all that extra connections each and everytime you move.. that's cool. go for it..!!
When I did a lot of moving around..it was and is a pain in the butt.. hooking up and getting everything setup.. Like I said, I went with the autmotic satellite ..push a button and it finds it..I put in the air card into computer and it connects....when the price is right for the two way connection with one satellite.. it will be on top of my rig..but by then who the heck knows .. there may even be a better way LOL.. like computers things change constantly..
and I'm for all new progress.. LOL hey next year I'll have new knees.. LOL then maybe I'll consider climbing again hahahaha..till then.. I'll take the elevator :)
God Bless Dear Friend and Don't Sweat the Small Stuff !!

Jenny, you have it nailed for Beth. She simply hasn't talked to the right person. In the past when talking to employees with Directv...I've been told conflicting things about our installing their service in our RV's. The worst misinformation was I HAD to have two accounts.. switching them back and forth... stopping and starting fees, etc. Sometimes when we travel, it is spur of the moment..throw things in the RV and hit the road...Being tied down to Direct TV would be a hassle!! This is NOT necessary! When we are traveling, there is no one home to watch Satellite there, so we are NOT using two. NOT cheating them. Besides what I resented most, having a reputation to those who know me best of being TIGHT, was the extra fees!!
When I had this last automatic antenna installed, the young man told me NOT to tell Direct TV it was in a RV, not because it was illegal...as Direct TV does allow it, but all employees don't know this!! He said tell them it was for a receiver in another room. Just simpler and gets around a hassle of finally getting the job done!
Oh yes, Jenny....getting together would be wonderful and lots of fun..Reckon the world is ready for the two of us together??!!! :)
Beth, good luck in your search for an understanding installer.. He is out there, waiting for you somewhere!! Happy Hunting!!
